Are you looking for cooking tips from Bobby Flay or eating tips at Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest? Do you want to celebrate American History with JOHN ADAMS, THE REVOLUTION or AMERICA: THE STORY OF US? Or would you rather just stay home and enjoy music and fireworks with Macy's 4th of July or the Philly 4th of July Jam?
To celebrate the 4th of July this year, bring out your beach towel, BBQ some hot dogs, and watch some television. TV Tango has your complete guide to Independence-Day themed programming as well as series and movie marathons on TV for your entire 4th of July vacation.
If you just want to watch fireworks on TV this year, here's a handy guide to five of the nation's best celebrations:
- New York: NBC (8-10pm ET live; 10-11pm encore) presents the 37th annual MACY'S 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR. Nick Cannon hosts, with performances by Mariah Carey, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, Cher, Pitbull, Selena Gomez, and more.
- Washington, DC: PBS (8-9:30pm ET live; 9:30-11pm encore) broadcasts the 33rd annual A CAPITOL FOURTH. Tom Bergeron returns to host for the 2nd consecutive time, and the event features performances by Barry Manilow, Darren Criss, Megan Hilty, AMERICAN IDOL Season 12 winner Candice Glover, Scotty McCreery, Jackie Evancho, John Williams conducting music from LINCOLN, and Broadway's "Motown: The Musical."
- Philadelphia: For the first time, the PHILLY 4TH OF JULY JAM is telecast live nationwide, with VH1 & Palladia (8-11pm ET live) simulcasting the 3rd annual concert. Kevin Hart hosts, with performances by The Roots, Jill Scott, Demi Lovato, J. Cole, Grace Potter, John Mayer and Ne-Yo.
- Chicago: WGN America (10:30-11pm ET live) telecasts the 32nd annual CHICAGO'S SUMMER BLAST, with fireworks from Navy Pier over the lakeside city.
- Boston: After showing the concert for 10 straight years, CBS didn't pick up the broadcast rights for the 40th annual BOSTON POPS FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR. Unfortunately, this year the event will only be shown live in Boston on WBZ-TV from 7-10pm ET. Audio streaming is available at cbsboston.com.
