Plot Synopsis
Wildly famous mystery novelist Richard Castle is bored with his own success. Then he learns that a real-world copycat killer has started staging murder scenes depicted in his novels. NYPD Detective Kate Beckett, a bright and aggressive detective who keeps her investigations under tight rein, questions Castle. Though they instantly clash, sparks of another sort also begin to fly, leading both to danger and a hint of romance as Castle steps in to help find the killer. And once that case is solved, he and Beckett build on their new relationship as they look to solve more strange homicides in New York City. His Broadway diva mother, Martha Rodgers, and quick-witted teenage daughter, Alexis, keep Castle grounded. After three seasons, Castle and Beckett's relationship has grown even stronger as they've dodged bullets, captured killers and solved countless murder cases in their unorthodox partnership -- but that may change with the by-the-book Captain Victoria Gates in charge since she instantly has an issue with Castle. But after nearly four seasons of "will they" or "won't they," Castle and Beckett finally gave in to their feelings for each other in the Season 4 finale. Season 5 (Fall 2012) picked up on the morning after, with Castle and Beckett facing new questions but ultimately deciding to work together as a couple. The fifth season ended on a cliffhanger, with Castle got down on one knee asking Beckett to marry him -- just as she was deciding whether to take a high-profile job in DC. Season 6 opened with Castle and Beckett dealing with the consequences of their decisions about careers and marriage. The sixth season premiere also marked the first episode of a three-episode arc for Lisa Edelstein, who guest stars as a tough and highly-skilled Federal investigator whose appearance plays a vital role in Beckett's decision about her future. CASTLE returned for its seventh season on Monday, September 29, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. In the Season 6 finale, as Richard Castle drove to his much-anticipated nuptials, an ominous black SUV bore down on him. Meanwhile, after waiting in vain for Castle to arrive at the wedding, Beckett was called to an accident scene to find Castle's car in a ravine, engulfed in flames. Who or what caused the car crash? Is there any way Castle could have survived? The season opener picks up at the scene of that accident, right where the finale left off, in an episode that promises to put Beckett through the toughest case of her career. CASTLE returned for its eighth season on Monday, September 21, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT on ABC. After passing the Captain's exam in the Season 7 finale, Beckett was surprised with an offer to run for State Senate. Season 8 kicked off with a two-part game changer that explores the same story, with one episode dedicated to each of Castle's and Beckett's perspectives. In the season opener, "XY" (Castle's perspective), Castle and Beckett are adjusting to Beckett's career change, when a call from a mysterious stranger sets off an explosive chain of events. Part 2, "XX" (Beckett's perspective), will debut one week later on September 28. For Season 8, Toks Olagundoye joins the series as Hayley, a quick-witted, free-spirited, former Scotland Yard police officer who works as a security specialist and is not afraid to cross lines to get things done.
