Plot Synopsis

Jeremy Wade is a biologist and extreme angler who travels the world looking for freshwater predators that feast on flesh. He'll follow piranha, alligators, and killer catfish and identify which ones are murderous killers. But, more importantly, he'll describe how they kill and give viewers an up-close look at what makes them dangerous, whether it's their sharp teeth or just a bad attitude. On Sunday, April 7, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT, Animal Planet aired the two-hour Season 5 premiere, following Jeremy as he investigated the case of a Bolivian man who had his face ripped off by a ferocious river predator, which lead to a showdown with an old adversary. Immediately following an all-day marathon (9am-9pm ET/PT) of encore episodes of RIVER MONSTERS: UNHOOKED, Animal Planet broadcast the two-hour Season 6 premiere of this series at 9pm ET/PT. In "Amazon Apocalypse," the first episode of the sixth season, Jeremy retraces the last voyage of the Sobral Santos and faces adversaries, old and new, as he tries to uncover what was behind the Amazon Apocalypse during which hundreds died, many rumored to have been eaten alive. Then, at 11pm ET (live), viewers can watch "River Monsters: LIVE with Jeremy Wade," a one-hour special that begins on Animal Planet (11-11:30pm ET) and ends on AnimalPlanet.com (11:30pm-Midnight ET). During Animal Planet's first-ever live aftershow, RIVER MONSTERS executive producer Lisa Lucas will moderate and Jeremy sits down to answer questions at the Knight Studio at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. In addition to seeing exclusive content, never-before-heard, behind-the-scenes stories and a fresh perspective into RIVER MONSTERS, viewers can submit their questions on Twitter and Facebook. Animal Planet premiered the seventh season of RIVER MONSTERS on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, immediately following an all-day marathon (9am-9pm) of encore episodes. In the 70-minute season opener, "Canadian Horror," Wade seeks to find the reason why boaters and fisherman are vanishing into thin air. The accused beast is described as a giant eel-like serpent and a fruitless search for this elusive predator sends Jeremy close to the edge. After nearly 13,000 casts, his determination borders on obsession as he waits for just one fated bite. Multiple setbacks and volatile weather have Jeremy looking to native spirits for a boost in confidence. Later in the season, Wade dives into the Okavango Delta in Botswana to face the aggressive tigerfish in its own environment -- underwater in the river's depths, alongside killer crocodiles. In Cambodia, Wade finds a deceivingly adorable little fish may be responsible for slicing through a young man's testicle. Jeremy makes himself shark bait in Alaska's icy waters to prove that these particular fish won't attack a human -- even if that human is diving right into the middle of a feeding frenzy. There's trouble in paradise with news stories of an unknown freshwater killer in Fiji. Wade has a fish he's met before in his crosshairs, but his search soon turns to a fierce predator that has never found its way on to his suspect list. Season 8 of RIVER MONSTERS premiered on Thursday, April 7, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Animal Planet, immediately following a new one-hour special (8pm) and an all-day marathon (9am-8pm) of encore episodes. In the special, "Into the Ocean," Jeremy charts the journey that has taken him from freshwater rivers into the heart of the big blue and revisits the extraordinary and deadly monsters he has encountered along the way. The new season, devoted entirely to legends and myths of beasts that dwell in the mysteries of the ocean, sends Jeremy on epic adventures to investigate what creatures are responsible for deadly attacks involving underwater predators and unsolved disappearances. In the season premiere, "Deep Sea Demon," Jeremy tackles the legend behind one of the most enduring sea monsters in history - the sea serpent. This investigation leads Jeremy on a journey from the English Channel to Thailand and France, culminating in one of the most incredible encounters of his life. Later in the season, Jeremy travels to exotic locations including Peru, Australia, Mexico and the Bahamas in search of deep sea killers.

On Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT, Animal Planet premiered the season finale of RIVER MONSTERS. In the season ender, "Malaysian Lake Monster," after two men vanish from a remote lake in Malaysia, Jeremy Wade sets out to track down the possible culprit. A trail of evidence leads Jeremy into an ancient rainforest, where an old adversary lies in wait.
