Plot Synopsis
From writer and executive producer Tyler Perry, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR is a scripted sitcom that follows the joys and struggles of a middle-class family in Atlanta, where matriarch Hattie Mae Love runs the Love Train Diner and deals with her customers, friends and family. Hattie Mae lives in the simple home that she and one of her husbands bought some time ago. Linda, her daughter, splits her time between her mother's home and the apartment she sometimes shares with her on-again, off-again husband, Lionel. Danny, Linda's son, is his mother's pride and joy, but this handsome young man is looking for a job after graduating from college while living on his grandmother's sofa. Hattie Mae has had enough of grown people living in her house, and she shows tough love by sending Linda and Danny to the door. Danny moves in with his friend, Sam, and Linda eventually helps out down at Hattie Mae's Love Train Diner, as she and Floyd, an uncle through his late brother's marriage, commit to help Hattie Mae with the old locomotive car converted to a diner where she serves her old recipes at this neighborhood hangout. With the help of his new roommate, Danny lands a job at an internet design firm; however, living and working with Sam, a 30-year-old man trapped in his teens, proves to be a nightmare of wild parties, crazy women and fanatical friends. Nevertheless, there is one huge upside to his new place: Drew is the beautiful girl next door who also works at the firm. Plus, Danny excels at his new position when the Chicago office sends the beautiful Marianna to take over as boss of the Atlanta office, where she quickly falls in love with Danny's work ethic and virtuous character. After a four-and-a-half month break, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR returned with all-new episodes, starting on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN, with even more hilarious hijinks from Mama Hattie and the gang at The Love Train Diner. Plus, on the same day, OWN aired a LOVE THY NEIGHBOR marathon (1-9pm ET/PT) that included the 16 episodes leading up to that night's premiere. As the new summer episodes unfold, Linda struggles with her feelings for Will and her growing attraction for Phillip. However, when Linda catches Will in a lie, she begins to question his true character. Tired of being the good girl who always gets hurt, Linda decides to throw all caution to the wind and follow her heart...with some very unexpected consequences. LOVE THY NEIGHBOR returned with new episodes on Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN, following a four-month break after Mama Hattie's daughter Linda discovered that she was pregnant and expecting a baby with her on-again-off-again boyfriend Philip. As the new episodes unfold, Linda struggles with breaking the baby news to Philip. Meanwhile, Philip gets back on the dating scene since he thinks Linda no longer wants anything to do with him. When Mama Hattie catches wind that Philip is seeing other women and assumes he isn't taking responsibility for his baby, she decides to call in reinforcements to help put Philip in his place. Later in the season, Philip tells Danny that he's ready to pop the question to Linda, but Linda finds herself questioning whether she's finally ready to take the leap and make Philip her husband. After a three-month break, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR returned with new episodes on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 9-10pm ET/PT on OWN, immediately following a seven-hour marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes. In the night's first new episode (9pm), "Ella and Curtis," Linda seeks help from Ella Payne (Cassandra 'Cassi' Davis) to plan her reception; Curtis wants Floyd to pay him back for his investment. Then at 9:30pm in "Drew's Feelings," Drew reveals her love for Danny. After a five-month break, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR returned with new episodes on Friday, January 8, 2016 from 9-10pm ET/PT, as OWN premiered back-to-back new episodes immediately following a seven-hour marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes. The new episodes kick off as Danny returns from Las Vegas with a new wife and things become complicated when Linda refuses to accept her into the family. Still in love with Danny, Drew is terribly jealous of Danny's new flame, and Sam is also not ready to lose his best friend. Meanwhile, Philip, who would typically play the role of peacekeeper in the group, finds himself caught up dealing with Linda's mood swings as she faces her final days of pregnancy. Through it all, Hattie Mae and Floyd attempt to keep things comedic with their ongoing jabs and feisty banter, but when Sam causes a major rift in his and Danny's friendship Sam is left questioning whether he may lose his best buddy forever. After a five-month break, LOVE THY NEIGHBOR returned with new episodes on Friday, July 1, 2016 from 9-10pm ET/PT, as OWN premiered back-to-back new episodes immediately following a seven-hour marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes. In the summer premiere (9pm), "The Bus Station," Drew causes an awful misunderstanding. Then, in the night's second new episode (9:30pm), "Invasion of Privacy," Sam disrupts Danny's marriage by violating Troy's personal space. OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered a new season of LOVE THEY NEIGHBOR on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 9-10pm ET/PT, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener (9pm), "Locked Out," Linda is concerned about Danny isolating himself in his apartment.
