Plot Synopsis

Author, inspirational speaker, and talk show host Iyanla Vanzant uses her past to help fix the lives of others. When she's helping members of the studio audience deal with rejection, relationships or self image, Iyanla relies on her own past personal struggles to help others reveal the truth of what's broken, understand their own emotions and develop a plan so they can overcome their issues and become stronger people. OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network aired a sneak-peek episode of this series on Saturday, June 2, 2012 at 10pm ET, with the official series premiere airing on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at 10pm ET. Seven months later, OWN presented new episodes of this series on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 9pm ET, with a 90-minute debut episode that featured DMX getting help from Iyanla to fix his rap-star life.

On July 27, 2013, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered the second season of IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE. In the season opener, "Fix My R&B Family," Iyanla travels to Alpharetta, GA, to help mend the volatile relationship between Grammy-nominated recording artist and reality TV star Syleena Johnson and her mother. IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE returned with new episodes on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN. In the mid-season premiere, Iyanla traveled to New York to work with rapper/actor and reality TV star Saigon and his on-again-off-again lover and mother to his son, Erica. Later in the season, Iyanla stages a life or death intervention with a more than 600-pound California woman who says she hasn't left her bed in five years; assists a man who says his whole marriage has been a joke; works with a family who says their father is so mean they are afraid to be in the same room with him; and helps a nurse whose family refuses to forgive her after she was found guilty of taking patients' pain medication.

Season 3 of IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE premiered on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the season opener, "Fix My Father with 34 Children (Part 1)," the first part of a three-part story, Iyanla meets Jay Williams, a video producer who has fathered 34 biological children with 17 different women, while she digs into the real issues behind his behavior. On Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered new episodes of of IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE. In eight new episodes, Iyanla helps those who are struggling, guiding them toward a new way of living and encouraging them to do the work necessary for real change. The season opens with a three-part story, featuring two pastors in crisis. Their true lives as gay men have been hidden from their families and congregations by years of lies and secrets...and now it is time for both to share their truth. Iyanla meets pastor Derek who is afraid how those closest to him will react when he comes out. Iyanla also meets pastor Mitchell who told his wife that he needed to embrace his identity, but who never told her about his multiple affairs.

IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE returned for its fourth season on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the eight-episode new season, Iyanla helps those who are struggling, guiding them toward a new way of living and encouraging them to do the work necessary for real change. In the season opener, "House of Healing: The Myth of The Angry Black Woman (Part 1 of 4)," Iyanla invites eight women to move into a House of Healing. These women have all been labeled as "Angry Black Women," and it's Iyanla's intention to prove that this stereotype is inaccurate, untrue and dangerous. The final three parts debut on subsequent Saturdays at 9pm in September and the beginning of October. On Saturday, April 15, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered a new season of IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE. In the two-part season premiere, Iyanla travels to Atlanta to visit former reality stars Neffeteria 'Neffe' Pugh and Shelby 'Soullow' Lowery, who are now living in a hotel on the brink of divorce. Overwhelmed by financial obligations, his troubled marriage and recovering from a heart attack, Iyanla helps Shelby find the courage to confront Neffe about her alcohol abuse and combative ways in hopes of building a solid future for their family. In another episode, Iyanla also visits the former front-man of R&B group 3T and nephew of the late pop superstar Michael Jackson, Taryll Jackson, to uncover the issues that lurk beneath the surface of his failing relationship with the mother of his children and girlfriend of 10 years. Continuing to focus on relationships, Iyanla also invites four married 'couples in crisis' to the 'House of Healing' for explosive three-part episode. Having dealt with infidelity, communication breakdown and on the brink of a break up, Iyanla works to help guide each couple as they struggle to heal their broken hearts and regain peace from their broken pieces. Later in the season, former BASKETBALL WIVES star Laura Govan comes to Iyanla for healing. Laura believes that her ex-fiance is targeting her on social media, and has even accused him of sleeping with her sister, Gloria. Iyanla works to help Laura strengthen her relationship with her parents and make sense of her life before it's too late. In an emotional season finale, Iyanla brings together six survivors of the Pulse nightclub tragedy, the deadliest mass shooting in American history. Each have been suffering in distinctly different ways since surviving the shooting. With no "fix," Iyanla will explore this painful memory so that each person can hopefully heal and begin to move forward, so that we can all learn from this tragedy.

The fifth season of IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE premiered on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. Iyanla is back and begins the season with her most explosive episode ever, as she works with Kamiyah Mobley, an young girl who was kidnapped at birth and raised by a woman who was not her mother. Today, that woman is in jail, but the experience has left Kamiyah numb and angry. Iyanla comes face to face with this anger in the season's fiery premiere episode. Later in the season, Iyanla also works with former music producer Mickey "Memphitz" Wright, a man who had all the perks the music industry provided until false accusations of abuse surfaced. He lost his job, his family and eventually turned to drugs. Iyanla works with him to find the root cause of his pain -- the brutal murder of his father at the hands of a member of the KKK. In yet another episode, Iyanla works with Hazel E to get to the root cause of the pain and anguish that caused her to lash out. Hazel E was perhaps best known for starring on the reality show LOVE & HIP HOP: HOLLYWOOD until her vicious social media rant exposed her controversial comments on colorism and homophobia. Then, Trina Braxton, younger sister of Grammy-winning artist Toni Braxton, and her husband Gabe are divorced, yet their lives are still entwined. Trina claims she wants help navigating her ex-husband's relationship with her son, Gabe's stepson, but as they begin their work, some very disturbing family pathologies begin to emerge. In a three-part special event, Iyanla sits down with the Mitchell brothers, men who were abandoned as children by both of their parents and raised in chaos. They've lost two of their brothers -- one to prison, the other to murder - and the effects are clear as things get heated. Iyanla tries hard to tame the disorder when their mother, father and sister join the conversation. Later in the season, viewers also see Iyanla work with two women who are paid escorts and want to leave the industry and two sisters with a deeply broken relationship. IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE returned with new episodes on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In these new episodes, life coach Iyanla Vanzant continues to help those who are struggling, guiding them toward a new way of living and encouraging them to do the work necessary for real change. In the summer premiere, "The Return of Neffe & Soullow," Neffeteria 'Neffe' Pugh and Shelby 'Soullow' Lowery return to Iyanla for a second attempt to heal their broken marriage, but an explosive argument between the two pushes Iyanla to walk out on her guests for the first time ever.

IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE returned for its sixth season on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In the season opener, "Reality Rehab," former reality stars Althea, Dutchess, and Minyon have all been hiding behind their television personas. Their addiction to fame and fortune have left these ladies lost, and Iyanla intervenes to help them reclaim their identity.

OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network premiered the seventh season of IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE on Saturday, October 31, 2020 from 9-11pm ET/PT. In the season opener, "BLEEP Your Process," reality star Shay Johnson is no stranger to cameras and conflict, but when it comes to healing the divisions in her family -- well, that is quite different. When asking for Iyanla's help to mend her broken relationship with her mother and brothers, the work required may be more than Shay bargained for.

The eighth and final season of IYANLA, FIX MY LIFE debuted on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network. In Season 8, Iyanla helps those who are struggling, guiding them toward a new way of living and encouraging them to do the work necessary for real change. Through emotional heart-to-heart conversations and often a dose of tough-love, Iyanla helps individuals confront unresolved issues that are causing turmoil. She coaches guests and gives them the tools to fix their own lives, seeking to break the negative patterns. The new season opens with a dramatic intervention when actress LisaRaye McCoy returns to Iyanla to complete the work that she started on her last visit. Iyanla answers the call to counsel LisaRaye who is finally ready to tackle the underlying issues within herself. The final episodes include:

"LisaRaye McCoy: Queen of De-Nial" (Saturday, April 10 from 9-10pm): Actress LisaRaye McCoy returns to complete the work that she started on her last visit. This time around, however, rather than healing the relationships with her mother and daughter, she is looking to address the breakdown within herself.

"My Marriage Is None of Our Business" Saturday, April 17 from 9-10pm): A couple who co-own a business together and share eleven children between them find themselves at a crisis point in their marriage. While he has one foot out the door, she is still hopeful that their union (and their livelihood) can be saved.

"99 Problems and the Corona is One" (Saturday, April 24 from 9-10pm): A family with adult children feels disconnected and frustrated after being quarantined together during Covid. They quickly discover, however, that their issues with communication and co-dependency have existed long before the threat of any virus.

"Dirty Laundry and Unfinished Business" (Saturday, May 1 from 9-11pm): The Giles family is back again with more unfinished business. This time, Marc's eldest son joins to settle a score with his dad, his youngest daughter confronts the grandmother who doesn't like her, and his youngest son makes a run for it.

"Taking Care of Business, Losing in Love" (Saturday, May 8 from 9-11pm): Four female friends who are at the top of their game in their careers seek Iyanla's help to figure out why their romantic relationships always seem to fail. They soon discover that old wounds from the past are creating blocks for the future.

"An Open Letter to All Black Men" (Saturday, May 15 from 9-11pm): A widowed father struggles to stop his two sons' reckless behavior, whose actions while grieving their mother's death threaten to send these young men straight down the prison pipeline, causing Iyanla to call in Dr. Steve Perry for reinforcements.

"Farewell Special (Part 1)" (Saturday, May 22 from 9-10pm): After nearly 150 episodes, the series is coming to an end. In part one of this two-hour farewell special, Iyanla reflects on eight seasons of life stories and life lessons behind the show that is a ministry.

"Farewell Special (Part 2)" (Saturday, May 22 from 10-11pm): The Farewell Special continues with part two as Iyanla introduces us to the wounded healer, opening up about a personal pain she's been enduring while helping others. Also, Iyanla has a long-needed conversation with her son, Damon.
