Are you dying to catch up on THE WALKING DEAD with AMC's "Dead, White and Blue" marathon? Are you looking for something a little more uplifting -- like maybe Christmas in July on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movie Channel? Or would you rather just stay home and enjoy music and fireworks with Macy's 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular or the Philly 4th of July Jam?
To celebrate the 4th of July this year, bring out your beach towel, BBQ some hot dogs, and watch some television. TV Tango has your complete guide to Independence-Day themed programming as well as series and movie marathons on TV for your entire 4th of July vacation.
If you just want to watch fireworks on TV (or online) this year, here's a handy guide to six of the nation's best celebrations this Friday (July 4):
- New York: NBC (8-10pm ET (live)/PT (tape); 10-11pm encore) presents the 38th annual MACY'S 4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR. Nick Cannon hosts, with performances by Ariana Grande, Hunter Hayes, Miranda Lambert, Lionel Richie, Enrique Iglesias, Zac Brown Band, and more.
- Washington, DC: PBS (8-9:30pm ET (live)/PT (tape); 9:30-11pm encore) broadcasts the 34th annual A CAPITOL FOURTH. Tom Bergeron returns to host for the 3rd consecutive time, and the event features performances by Frankie Valli, Patti LaBelle, Jordin Sparks, Michael McDonald, Sara Evans, Kendall Schmidt, Phillip Phillips, the Muppets and Kelli O'Hara, with John Williams debuting a special arrangement of the "Star Spangled Banner" to celebrate the 200th anniversary of our national anthem.
- Philadelphia: For the second time, the PHILLY 4TH OF JULY JAM is telecast live nationwide, with VH1 & Palladia (8-11pm ET live) simulcasting the 4th annual concert. Marlon Wayans hosts, with performances by The Roots, Nicki Minaj, Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande and Aloe Blacc.
- Boston: After showing the concert for 10 straight years, CBS didn't pick up the broadcast rights for the BOSTON POPS FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR in 2013. Unfortunately, this year -- like last year -- the event will only be shown live on local television in Boston on WBZ-TV, but anyone in the U.S. can watch a livestream here (http://bostonpopsjuly4th.org/) from 8-11pm ET/5-8pm PT. In addition to the Boston Symphony Orchestra (with Keith Lockhart conducting), The Beach Boys, Megan Hilty, and Julia Udine & Ben Jacoby are scheduled to perform.
- Chicago: WGN America is no longer covering this event, and only the local WGN affiliate will provide a live telecast (starting at 9:30pm local time) of the 33rd annual CHICAGO'S SUMMER BLAST, with fireworks from Navy Pier over the lakeside city. If you live outside of Chicago, you can watch it online at WGNtv.com (10:30pm ET/7:30pm PT).
- San Diego: Two Tribune Broadcasting affiliates in Southern California, Fox5 (San Diego) and KTLA (Los Angeles), will provide a live telecast of the Big Bay Boom from 8-9:30pm PT. (NOTE: These affiliates may be available on local cable carriers across America, so you still may be able to watch even though it's not being livestreamed.) Although less famous than the other events on this list, most people know about the 2012 Big Bay Bust, during which a technical glitch caused the the entire 17-minute fireworks display to be set off in 15 seconds.
