Plot Synopsis
They are the first line of defense on the last frontier, the roughly 400 state troopers who patrol the rugged and unforgiving terrain of America's largest state. Throughout the Alaskan wilderness and its remote villages, this series captures a mixture of raw nature, criminal activity and police responses, including: helicopter rescues on frigid, 22 degree mountaintops; dangerous suspect chase-downs in south central Alaska; an intoxicated gold miner who is blocking a road; missing snow machine riders that spur a search and rescue mission via helicopter, which finds an overturned snow machine; a horrific stabbing sends a trooper on a search for the stabber in a maze of unsecured cabins; a speeding vehicle that's about to reach the populous town center; and many more crimes and incidents. Season 5 debuted on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT on Nat Geo, as troopers chased suspects with spring beckoning and the Iditarod heating up. The show's fifth season was dedicated to the memory of Trooper Tage Toll and Trooper Pilot Mel Nading, who plucked victims from a floatplane crash off an iceberg on the Kenai Peninsula, hauled a snowmobile rider out of a crevasse in the Chugach Mountains, rescued injured mountain climbers, retrieved lost hikers, and were profiled in the series on similar Helo-1 missions. After a four-month break, ALASKA STATE TROOPERS returned with new episodes on Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT. In the first episode back, "Guns, Cash & Coke," troopers chase a wanted and dangerous man through a forest after he crashes his car into a hotel at 100 miles per hour, injuring three people. The hunt for illegal bootleggers hiding in the villages near Kotzebue becomes complicated when the sighting of a big brown bear threatens the safety of the officers. Later, troopers assist an aggressive man under the influence of some type of drug after receiving a call about his incoherent behavior. On Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT, Nat Geo aired the Season 7 premiere of ALASKA STATE TROOPERS, shortly after a daytime (10am-5pm) marathon of encore episodes. In the sixth season opener, "In the Line of Duty," Sgt. Manrique is forced into a father-and-son conflict in which the father nearly stabbed his son to death in the Mat-Su Valley. Then in Wasilla, Trooper Cronin investigates a suspicious truck in a gas station parking lot and finds a familiar face a felonious woman he's been searching for. Meanwhile up in Fairbanks, Trooper Haley gets word of an intoxicated man camping in the Alaskan woods. ALASKA STATE TROOPERS returned for its eighth and final season on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on Nat Geo, immediately following an all-day marathon (9am-9pm) of encore episodes. The final season of ALASKA STATE TROOPERS is dedicated to the memories of Troopers Tage Toll and Gabe Rich, Sgt. Scott Johnson and Trooper Pilot Mel Nading. Toll and Nading were killed in action in March 2013 during a Helo-1 search and rescue mission to save an injured snowmachiner. Rich and Johnson were killed in the line of duty while responding to a call in a remote Alaskan village on May 1, 2014. All four of these brave men were profiled in the series.

On Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, Nat Geo premiered the series finale of ALASKA STATE TROOPERS. In the series ender, "Asleep at the Wheel," Trooper Noll gets a horrific call that a car has rolled off a cliff and into a stream up on a mountain pass. There's no direct contact with the victims, so he must rely solely on text messages with the original informer. Up north in Fairbanks, Trooper Johnson gets a startling call that a man has passed out in his car in the middle of the road, completely unresponsive. Down south in Soldotna, Trooper Tefft is searching for a man who's created a dangerous situation. When the man dropped off his child with his ex, she noticed he reeked of alcohol -- and when confronted, he assaulted her with his truck. Finally, back north in Fairbanks, Trooper Worland gets a call from a petrified young girl who says that three masked men had been trying to enter her home.
