Plot Synopsis

This reality series goes inside the hidden world of American Gypsies, exploring their tight-knit community and revealing their infamous Swarovski Crystal-studded weddings. There are an estimated one million Gypsies throughout the US, but most live in complete secrecy, away from the judgment and discrimination that plague their communities. However, their celebrations are large, loud, and lavish, and Boston-based Sondra Celli makes their elaborate custom gowns and outfits for weddings, birthdays, baptisms and other milestones. This series returned for its second season on Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 9pm ET on TLC, immediately following a one-hour special, MY BIG FAT GYPSY VALENTINE. Immediately following a six-hour marathon (3-8pm ET/PT) of encore episodes of MY BIG FAT AMERICAN GYPSY WEDDING, TLC aired a one-hour special, "Most Blingtastic Moments," at 8pm ET/PT and then the Season 3 premiere at 9pm ET/PT on Thursday, April 3, 2014. In the season opener, two star-crossed teen lovers from feuding gypsy families are determined to marry, despite the fact that their controlling moms try to keep them apart. Plus, a young gypsy boy attempts to make Romanichal history by becoming the first gypsy jujitsu champion. Season 2 also features a double wedding with two Gypsy sisters getting ready to wed their non-Gypsy fiances, despite their mother's objections about marrying outside the bloodline; an Irish traveller pursuing his dream of becoming America's first Gypsy rapper; a young Gypsy couple who has found love online -- and plan to meet for the very first time on their wedding day; and a young Romney teen who turns her back on tradition to follow her dreams of becoming the first Gypsy supermodel. TLC premiered the fourth season of MY BIG FAT AMERICAN GYPSY WEDDING on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT, immediately following an all-day marathon (2-9pm) of encore episodes. Ellen K narrates for the fourth consecutive season. In the Season 4 premiere, "The Greek Goddess and the Giant Gown," a Greek gypsy bride-to-be sets out to make history in the biggest, blinged-out wedding dress ever made! Later, it's a clash amongst the generations when a gypsy teen's sweet 16 party is derailed by her over-bearing traditional grandmother. MY BIG FAT GYPSY WEDDING returned for its fifth season on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 10pm ET/PT on TLC. With coming of age parties, arranged marriages, purification ceremonies and a Veil of Darkness wedding ritual, the Gypsies have their own set of customs and superstitions, vital to the survival of their mysterious culture. This season Gypsy dress designer Sondra Celli creates the most unique dresses to date, including a dress made entirely out of flowers, a dress made out of candy and a Cherokee-themed dress. In the season opener, "Rotting Dresses and Candy Messes," Maquayla, an 18 year-old Romanichal Gypsy with a zest for life, dreams of walking down the aisle in her dream wedding dress: a gown made out of real flowers! But will the dress stay alive for the ceremony? Meanwhile, 16 year-old Gypsy Yazzie wants the perfect candy-themed Sweet 16 birthday party, but it may be all-out war if she invites her gorger (non-Gypsy) boyfriend. Will her Sweet 16 turn sour, or will it take a turn for the sweetest Sweet 16 ever? Season 6 of MY BIG FAT AMERICAN GYPSY WEDDING premiered on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at 11pm ET/PT on TLC. In the season opener, "The Ultimate Gypsy-Gorger-Gypsy Love Triangle," bypsy Cearia is set to marry gorger fiance Sam, but soon she's in a love triangle when her gypsy cousin Kyle says they belong together! Mom Angie plans a birthday party for her daughter Jewel to find a gypsy husband, but Jewel is secretly seeing a gorger. MY BIG FAT AMERICAN GYPSY WEDDING moves to its regular timeslot -- Saturdays at 10pm -- the following weekend, beginning Saturday, October 27.

On Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT, TLC premiered the Season 6 finale of MY BIG FAT AMERICAN GYPSY WEDDING. In the season ender, "Reverse the Gypsy Curse," Brittany plans a traditional gypsy funeral for her late father, hoping to reverse a curse of bad luck that began after he was cremated. Maryann will only let her daughter Lexi marry gorger Kenny if he disowns his entire family. Who will he choose?
