Plot Synopsis
These three families are one big blended family with Jay the patriarch and Claire and Mitchell his grown kids. Jay is a true guys' guy who had a bit of mid-life crisis when he married Gloria -- a much younger woman -- and now Jay has a sensitive stepson who he's trying to toughen up and a new baby of his own. Claire and Phil want to have an open, healthy, honest relationship with their three children. Only problem? Claire can be a little overbearing, especially with her oldest daughter, because she doesn't want her kids to have the same rebellious childhood she had. Plus, Phil thinks he's the cool dad, but he only ends up embarrassing himself and his kids: Haley, who is back home trying to figure out her future; Alex, who is on the fast-track to college; and Luke, who is starting high school. After being together for five years, Mitchell and Cameron came back from Vietnam, where they adopted baby Lily. Cameron has a wonderfully big personality and maybe a flare for the dramatic, and Mitchell balances out the relationship since he's the more serious of the two.
Season 5 of MODERN FAMILY debuted on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at 9pm ET/PT with a one-hour premiere event, as the family is in the throes of summer activities and then the start of the new school year. Two weeks later, on October 9 at 9pm ET/PT, MODERN FAMILY celebrated its 100th episode, with Cam trying to break the news of his engagement to his visiting sister, while Phil and Claire decide to miss one of Luke's games.
The sixth season of MODERN FAMILY premiered on Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "The Long Honeymoon," Alex is away on a humanitarian trip for the summer and the rest of the family is getting along swimmingly, but when Alex comes home, there is an immediate shift in mood. Elsewhere, Mitch and Cam have returned from their honeymoon and Mitch is acclimating to real life much quicker than the still lovey-dovey Cameron. Meanwhile, Gloria has taken issue with how little effort Jay puts into his appearance and decides to give him a taste of his own medicine.
MODERN FAMILY returned for its seventh season on Wednesday September 23, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "Summer Lovin," Haley's attempt to stop Andy from proposing to Beth will end up with both Haley and Andy needing to cope with their emotions and both will have their own special ways of doing so, and Phil and Claire seem to only make matters worse. Jay and Gloria look at pre-schools for Joe and get a rude awakening after they realize the competitive wait list to get in. Meanwhile, Cam tries to remain supportive of Mitch's midlife career crisis, but money is getting a little tight, so Cam comes up with a scheme to get Mitch's old job back.
Season 8 of MODERN FAMILY premiered on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "A Tale of Three Cities," after recent trips take the Dunphys to New York; Mitch, Cam and Lily to the Midwest; and Jay, Gloria, Manny and Joe to Juarez, Mexico; the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan reunites in with all of the families converging at home for Father's Day.
The ninth season of MODERN FAMILY premiered on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "Lake Life," Jay forces the family to take their family vacation on a houseboat on a lake in an effort to create memories that will last long after he's gone. Meanwhile, Mitchell runs into an old flame that opens some old wounds; Cam has to stay out of the sun at all costs; Phil and Claire try out some adventureous excursions; and the kids' quest for a good time may not be as fun as they expected.
Season 10 of MODERN FAMILY premiered on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "I Love a Parade," the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan are going to be setting off more than a few fireworks when they get together at the annual Fourth of July parade where Jay will be acting as the grand marshal. Meanwhile, Haley's goodbye with Arvin before his trip to Switzerland doesn't go as well as she pictured it and is distracted by the return of an old flame.
The eleventh and final season of MODERN FAMILY premiered on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on ABC. In the season opener, "New Kids on the Block," directed by Gail Mancuso, Haley is determined to follow the advice in her parenting books with the twins, but Phil and Claire think their old methods are better. Meanwhile, Manny is set to direct Jay's dog bed commercial in the hopes of winning his ex-girlfriend back. Guest starring is Hillary Anne Matthews as Sherry.
