Plot Synopsis
PREACHERS OF L.A. is a reality series that follows six world-renowned mega-pastors in Southern California, as they juggle their family lives and their work in the community, with their parishioners, and from the pulpit. Plus, this one-hour series reveals the daily struggles and triumphs they face as men, husbands, fathers, brothers and friends, and introduces the women behind these church leaders, who often work just as hard to balance their lives in the spotlight with their commitment to family. The six preachers in this series are: Bishop Noel Jones, a notable leader in the faith community, who spends his time traveling the world spreading the gospel, making it difficult to maintain a relationship with that someone special; Minister Deitrick Haddon, the son of a bishop and an evangelist, who went through a divorce, moved to California, had a child out of wedlock, and is rebuilding his faith and restoring his family; Bishop Clarence McClendon, seen on an international weekly broadcast available in 250 million homes, who hopes to see his sons go into the family business; Pastor Jay Haizlip, a competitive skateboarder from Gadsden, Alabama, who reaches out to troubled youth, finding them in prisons, skate parks and the same crack houses he once shot dope in; Pastor Wayne Chaney, the pastor in the church his grandfather built, who struggles to find a balance between his ministry and his family and wife, gospel artist Myesha Chaney, who was his secret weapon to grow his church; and Bishop Ron Gibson, a former Compton Crip, who started Life Church of God in Christ with nine members, which has now grown to a congregation of approximately 4,000 members. On Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT, Oxygen aired the Season 2 premiere of PREACHERS OF L.A. The second season is full of self-discovery and change with growing families and ministries, incredible women of strength beside them, and ever-changing relationships. Bishop Jones and Loretta's relationship is still evolving, but Bishop Gibson and Lady LaVette's strong convictions keep them from accepting the nature of their friends' close bond, causing a devastating rift. With his focus on ministry and not his personal life, Bishop Jones enlists the help of his fellow preachers to create an event that will positively impact the community of Los Angeles. Meanwhile, after much turmoil, Deitrick and Dominique are now married and have a new addition to their family -- but their marital bliss is short-lived when Pastor Jay accuses Deitrick of deceiving him at their wedding. Family dynamics are also rocked when Pastor Jay and Christy's relationship is put to the test as Pastor Jay struggles to forgive a family member for their past demons. Bishop McClendon is focused on the expansion of his new ministry in Atlanta, but he is challenged when he must deal with every father's fear -- giving his daughter away to another man. Pastor Wayne Chaney and First Lady Myesha must balance business with personal now that she is the newly appointed Executive Pastor of their church. And while Myesha is feeling better than ever after getting healthy and shedding 40 pounds, the couple struggles with a life-altering decision about the future of their family.
