Plot Synopsis

In each one-hour episode of HISTORY DETECTIVES SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS, veteran detectives Tukufu Zuberi and Wes Cowan join forces with new host Kaiama Glover to probe a single iconic mystery from America's past. Unlike its predecessor, HISTORY DETECTIVES, which featured three stories per hour, this new series features only one story per episode, while still using cutting edge tools to explore some of the world's biggest historical mysteries. As detectives unearth fresh evidence, sift through clues and crisscross the country in search of answers, they reveal new perspectives on these stories: the sinking of SS Sultana during the Civil War, one of the worst maritime disasters in U.S. history; the disappearance of Glenn Miller, perhaps the biggest mystery and cold case of World War II; the unsolved murders of six servants and two socialites in Austin, Texas in 1885; and Teamsters president Hoffa's final days. The three investigators are: Wes Cowan, an independent appraiser and auctioneer; Kaiama Glover, professor at Barnard College, Columbia University; and Tukufu Zuberi, professor of sociology at the University of Pennsylvania. PBS lists HISTORY DETECTIVES SPECIAL INVESTIGATIONS as a new program with production code numbers that also indicate that it's a new series, but in press releases the network sometimes refers to the program as the eleventh season of HISTORY DETECTIVES.
