Plot Synopsis

Hosted by ABC News contributor Ryan Smith, BAD ROMANCE is an eight-episode limited true-crime series that reports on 20/20 stories ripped from the headlines, leading viewers through some of the most shocking and surprising romance stories of the last decade -- stories that began with romance and ended in crime. Every Monday night for eight weeks following THE BACHELOR, this series features true-crime stories, including the twisted love triangle between a husband, wife and lover; the murder of an NFL star's pregnant girlfriend; and the case of a man found guilty of murdering his wife by two separate juries. Throughout the series, 20/20 visits crime scenes and interviews the individuals at the center of some of the most twisted and obsessive love stories, just weeks before Valentine's Day. Episodes include:

"Dangerous Game" (Monday, January 22, 2024): An Illinois man jokes on national TV that he regrets his marriage; a couple of months later, his wife is murdered; authorities wonder whether a ghostly figure on a bike caught on surveillance video could be the killer.

"No Trace" (Monday, January 29, 2024): A situation involving a husband, a wife and a young bar hostess results in a disappearance.

"Shot in the Dark" (Monday, February 5, 2024): A high school love story turns deadly.

"Tangled Web" (Monday, February 12, 2024): A couple is stalked, a woman goes missing, and one cellphone holds the key.

"Deadly Night" (Monday, February 19, 2024): A rollercoaster ride through tales of heartbreak, betrayal and the unexpected twists that can occur when love turns sour.

"Shattered Love" (Monday, February 26, 2024): A beloved young mother is found murdered in her bedroom closet; the incredible investigation leads to multiple trials and a 24-year search for justice.

"Dark Waters" (Monday, March 4, 2024): When a military hero's body is found at the bottom of a pond, authorities race to find the killer; the shocking evidence leads to someone closer than authorities could have imagined.

"Death at the Door" (Monday, March 11, 2024): When a former NFL star's pregnant girlfriend is found murdered on the kitchen floor of her apartment, police begin looking for the killer, but it's a wired conversation with a friend that leads them right to the killer.
