Plot Synopsis

Three years have passed since the zombie virus gutted the United States. Now, a team led by Hammond and second-in-command Garnett must transport Murphy, the only known survivor of the plague, from New York to a protected military base in California, where the last functioning viral lab waits to use his blood to find a cure for the zombie virus. Although the antibodies he carries are the world's last hope for a vaccine, he hides a dark secret that threatens them all. When the zombie apocalypse broke out, Murphy was doing time for white collar crime. Desperate to find a cure for the zombie virus, the government performed experiments on prisoners, and as part of those tests, Murphy was mauled by a horde of the undead -- and survived -- possibly making him the key for a cure. Prior to the zombie apocalypse, Lt. Mark Hammond was one of the most respected members of the elite Delta Force. A military man to the core, Hammond will do whatever it takes to ensure a possible cure for the zombie virus is found. Hammond's second-in-command, Charles Garnett, was with the National Guard based out of Georgia, but this tough military man has maintained a compassionate demeanor and employs a cool logic. Another ex-National guard survivor, Roberta Warren, lost nearly everything and everyone that mattered to her before joining the group. The group is also helped by Private First Class Simon Cruller, an NSA agent at a remote listening post in the arctic, who was spared from the zombie apocalypse. Cruller, now known as Citizen Z, uses his network of surveillance cameras, listening equipment and speakers to transmit messages and relay critical information, giving them hope. Other members of the group include: Addy Carver and her boyfriend Mack Thompson, two disparate wanderers who were drawn to the team by a shared goal -- survival; Steven Beck (aka Doc), who's not a doctor but actually an ex-addict who taught himself about medicine; Cassandra, whose past is shrouded in mystery and whose quiet strength comes from a time before the zombie apocalypse; and 10K, of whom little is known, except that he plans on killing 10,000 zombies -- and he's well on his way there. With humankind's survival at stake, this ragtag band must survive their journey across 3,000 miles of rusted-out post-apocalyptic America to deliver Murphy to the lab. On Friday, September 11, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, Syfy premiered the second season of Z NATION. In the season opener, "The Murphy," moments have passed since Murphy triggered the launch of tactical nuclear weapons and it's every man/woman for themselves as the group split up and try to outrun the impending blast. Meanwhile, Citizen Z finds himself battling thawed zombies and unable to communicate with the team, which leads him to make a desperate move that prompts the arrival of a mysterious and deadly bounty hunter. Season 3 of Z NATION premiered on Friday, September 16, 2016 from 8-10pm ET/PT on Syfy, with new episodes debuting Fridays at 9pm starting one week later on September 23. After discovering their mission to bring Murphy, the only known survivor of the zombie plague, to a viral lab took an unexpected turn, the team is now split on the future of mankind. Murphy wants to create a race of human-zombie "blends," while the gang, led by Lieutenant Warren are determined to stop him at all costs. In the two-hour season opener, Warren's group is taken prisoner by a new foe, but it won't be long before Murphy and Warren face a showdown. The 13-episode fourth season of Z NATION premiered on Friday, September 29, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on Syfy. The new season begins with a mind-bending jump in time. Murphy and Warren find themselves alive in Zona, the zombie free playground for billionaires. Meanwhile, the rest of our heroes are fighting alongside the last of the humans against the mutated Zombie Virus and the unkillable "MAD-Z's." Warren's mysterious dream of a black rainbow and flesh-eating black rain propels the season forward and puts our heroes in the middle of an even worse Zompocalypse. Here they will have to battle Jugalo Zombies and find the Zombified President of the United States -- or at least his thumb. Returning cast include Kellita Smith, Keith Allan, DJ Qualls, Anastasia Baranova, Russell Hodgkinson, Nat Zang, Joseph Gatt, Emilio Rivera and Matt Cedeno. On Friday, October 5, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT, Syfy premiered the fifth season of Z NATION. In the season opener, "Welcome to the Newpocalypse," Warren recovers from the drone crash with handsome, mysterious Cooper; Doc and the others finally arrive in Newmerica, where they meet George, who is helping form the new country. Earlier in the day, SyFy aired a seven-hour marathon (6am-1pm) of encore episodes from the show's fourth season.
