Plot Synopsis
Inspired by the Playboy Magazine article "Sugar on Top" by John H. Richardson, YOU ME HER is a half-hour polyromantic comedy series that centers on a three-way relationship between an escort and a suburban married couple. Jack and Emma are happily married but coming off several years of "baby sex" and fertility struggles. A waning sex life and a sequence of surprising turns spin their relationship in a direction neither could have possibly imagined -- after the sexually frustrated family man Jack pays Izzy to sleep with him. Feeling ashamed, he confesses his one-night affair to Emma. Fearing his marriage might be over, Jack is shocked to learn that Emma didn't hire a divorce lawyer, but instead has gone out and hired that same female escort to start her own sexual affair. It creates an unusual situation where they must have an honest and candid conversation about turning their marriage into an open relationship with a third partner.
On Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at 8:30pm ET/PT, AT&T/DirecTV's Audience Network premiered the 10-episode second season of YOU ME HER. Season 1 was a contemporary classic rom-com that just happened to involve three people. Now that grad student Izzy is moving in with suburban couple Jack and Emma, Season 2 is about the complex realities of polyamory and "throupling." What happens when this peculiar rom-com fades to black? Can they prove their best, truest, happiest lives really are together, even when more conventional alternatives beckon? They stood up to the outside world but now they have to face something even more formidable: themselves. Taking the leap was just the beginning. Sara St. Onge directed all episodes of the second season, which is about holding on when letting go seems so much easier.
The third season of YOU ME HER premiered on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT on AT&T/DirecTV's Audience Network. Season 3 opens the day before Jack and Emma's divorce signing. Circumstances reunite the throuple, forcing them to confront what drew them together and what tore them apart. Will Emma return to her lesbian dream life in Seattle and leave suddenly heteronormative couple Jack and Izzy to start a family? Or will the trio realize being together may be complicated but being apart is unbearable? Most importantly, can all of them really live their best, truest, happiest lives in polyfidelity, a committed three-person union? Can each of them hold onto the "me"?
The 10-episode fourth season of YOU ME HER premiered on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on AT&T/DirecTV's Audience Network. At the end of last season, the "throuple" pulled together their happy ending - a surprise poly commitment ceremony in a pizza joint. Now, they're settling back into the 'burbs to live a tweaked version of the conventional "married with children" life. But are the "accidental polyamorists" trying to jam a triangular peg into a round-hole world? Will they break the neighborhood, their peculiar romance, or both? Jem Garrard directs all 10 episodes of Season 4.
