Plot Synopsis

Mixing the reality of prison life with dramatic recreations of how each of the characters ended up behind bars in Indiana Women's Prison, WOMEN IN PRISON explores the lives of women who, often after one tragic misstep, end up on the wrong side of the law. Each one-hour episode features two women, including: soccer mom Alicia, the Indiana Women's Prison answer to Piper from ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, who was living the perfect suburban life, but behind closed doors she was secretly committing fraud; preacher's daughter Hannah, who was involved in a violent and tragic chain of events that ended in savage murder and was sent to prison at age 17; Red, one of the prison's biggest characters, who emcees the annual prison talent show, wowing the audience with her quick wit and easy charm; loner Lara, one of the prison's more introverted inhabitants, who writes an autobiographical song to perform at the annual prison Talent Show to set the record straight about her crime; former art teacher Betsy, who struggles with the lengthy sentence she received for her crime, but is learning to accept her colorless existence in prison; and long-termer Anastazia seems an unlikely inmate to be incarcerated for many years, but one snap decision changed the course of her life forever. On Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, Investigation Discovery premiered the second season of WOMEN IN PRISON. In the season opener, "The Army Girl and The Money Maker," a former army officer turns to drugs when she's injured on duty. When her dealer won't cut her a break, she commits the bloodiest of murders. And after the premature death of her father, an A-grade student has to become a criminal to support her family.

Investigation Discovery premiered the Season 2 finale of WOMEN IN PRISON on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT. In the season ender, "The Hustler and the Teen Mom," desperate for cash, a pregnant teenager and her boyfriend murder an elderly relative. And a single mother runs a blackmail scam on to help support her children. Things get out of hand when she falsifies disability checks from one of her kid's for money.
