Plot Synopsis
Each Winter Olympics officially ends with the Closing Ceremony of the Games of the Olympiad, typically held in the Olympic stadium after all events have ended. Early broadcasts of the closing ceremonies also included a recap of highlights and coverage of that day's events, such as men's individual large hill ski jump in 1960 (Squaw Valley: 80-m) and 1968 (Grenoble: 90-m). Each ceremony includes the following elements:
- the entry by the Head of State of the host country, accompanied by the Presidents of the IOC and OCOG;
- the national anthem of the host country;
- the entry of the nations' flags into the stadium (in alphabetical order, except for Greece which goes first and the host country last);
- the parade of athletes, a unified entrance that is en masse and in no particular order;
- the artistic program;
- a victory cermony, awarding medals for a single event;
- the Greek national anthem;
- lowering the Olympic flag, with the mayor of the next host city receiving the flag;
- an eight-minute artistic program from the next host city;
- the address by the Games Organizing Committee President;
- the declaration of the closing of the IOC President;
- extinguishing the Olympic flame.
