Plot Synopsis

Each week, four up-and-coming designers compete for a $10,000 cash prize, as they try to impress the judges by using outrageous elements to transform 10-foot by 10-foot white rooms into amazing spaces during a 15-hour design battle. In each 60-minute episode, designers use a different element or medium, including: candy from an enormous candy store, where one contestant creates wallpaper contructed of pixie sticks and lollipops; a minimum of 1500 flowers from the Flower Mart, after which one competitor makes upholstery from flower petals; items from a salvage yard; purchases from a lighting store, with the judges viewing the rooms with the stage lights off; collectibles and random pieces that must convey the rooms theme -- dining room, living room, bedroom, office; and many more items. Since he won Season 1 of DESIGN STAR and still vividly remembers the day of that first White Room challenge, host David Bromstad offers a unique perspective to mentor the contestants. Jamie Durie, host of OUTDOOR ROOM and HGTV SHOWDOWN, heads a judging panel filled with a rotation of guest judges, including: Thom Filicia; Meg Caswell, HGTV DESIGN STAR Season 6 winner and host of MEG'S GREAT ROOMS; GOING YARD's Chris Lambton; and Dina Manzo of DINA'S PARTY.
