Plot Synopsis

Host Ben Fogle travels around the world to meet people who have turned their backs on the daily grind. Ben spends time in the world's most remote locations, meeting the people who now inhabit these inhospitable corners of the planet after leaving their ordinary lives behind. While he meets these adventurers, Ben also discovers the truth about life in tough, harsh conditions, where doing battle with Mother Nature is a daily reality. In each one-hour episode, Ben travels to a different region of the world, including: Australia, where Ben travels to a remote island to live with a former Sydney businessman; Alaska, where Ben joins a family in a mountainside yurt in Alaska; New Zealand, where Ben meets hunter-gatherers; Texas (USA), where Ben heads to a remote part of the Lone Star State to visit an ex-city slicker; Georgia (USA), where Ben journeys to the swamplands to meet a former financier who's turned Tarzan; Himalayan Foothills, India, where Ben meets an ex-fighter pilot turned hill farmer; Leyte, Philippines, where Ben joins coconut farmer Neil and his young family in their bamboo house; and Panama, where Ben meets a former dump-truck driver who sold his life on eBay and bought a tiny island. More than one year after debuting in the UK with the title NEW LIVES IN THE WILD, this series -- with a new title, WHERE THE WILD MEN ARE -- had its U.S. premiere on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on Science Channel.
