Plot Synopsis

This one-hour series explores strange phenomena captured on images taken from satellites, highlighting outrageous natural phenomena, legendary mythical locations, and sprawling man-made structures. The season opener, "Lake of Blood," searches for a gigantic tsunami hundreds of feet high that never hits land,a secret underground base in China, and a potential location of the Garden of Eden. Subsequent episodes feature The Lost City of Gold, the Secrets of the Sahara, and much more. WHAT ON EARTH returned for its second season on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Science Channel. The season opener, "Finding Vietnam's Lost POWs," reveals desperate signs from lost veterans in Vietnam captured by satellite, including a fleet of massive ships stranded in the middle of a vast desert and strange walls stretching vast distances across North California. Just what on Earth are they?

The third season of WHAT ON EARTH? premiered on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Science Channel, immediately following an 18-hour marathon (3am-9pm) of encore episodes. The series has investigated mysteries from strange geological occurrences to weird man-made structures. The season opener, "Lost Treasure of the Grand Canyon," takes on what appears to be a legendary treasure hidden in the Grand Canyon by a notorious bandit. Plus, satellite images could explain desert ruins rumored to be an entrance to an underworld, and a city-size chunk of ice suddenly disappears in Antarctica.

Season 4 of WHAT ON EARTH? premiered on Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on Science Channel. In the season opener, "Dracula's Tomb," strange mounds in Transylvania might pinpoint the location of the tomb of the bloodthirsty tyrant believed to have inspired Dracula. A mysterious ancient city is discovered on a coral reef. Images of a plane crash sets off a hunt for a drug lord. Additional stories this season include: a Romanian lake full of swirling orange, green and silver liquids, with a church spire protruding from its waters; a satellite image of Hurricane Matthew reveals that the superstorm is carrying thousands of animals across the Atlantic Ocean; tens of thousands of huge, mysterious oval scars in the North American landscape, all aligned in the same direction; and a scarlet lake in Tanzania, its banks lined with animals seemingly turned to stone.

On Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 9-11pm ET/PT, Science Channel premiered "World's Deadliest Threats," WHAT ON EARTH? sixth season premiere. In the season opener, the world's most dangerous threats are in top-secret location all over the plant, and using cutting-edge technology, experts reveal the truth behind these sinister mysteries from space.

Science Channel premiered the Season 6 winter premiere of WHAT ON EARTH? on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT. In this new episode, "Nazi Doomsday Forest," when mysterious structures are discovered deep in a remote forest, experts investigate if this strange site was the long-lost birthplace of a top-secret Nazi project that produced some of the deadliest weapons the world had ever seen.

On Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT, Science Channel premiered the eighth season of WHAT ON EARTH? In the season opener, "Zombietown USA," satellite images capture evidence of an abandoned town hidden.

Season 9 of WHAT ON EARTH? premiered on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on Science Channel. In the season opener, "Curse of the Amazon Nazis," experts follow evidence of a Nazi base in the Amazons to a dark discovery.

WHAT ON EARTH? returned for its tenth season on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT on Science Channel. In the season opener, "Australia's Nuclear Desert," satellite images capture a giant symbol mysteriously carved into the expanse of Australia's Great Victoria Desert; meanwhile, an investigation reveals a secret nuclear weapons testing cover-up by the British government with numerous aboriginal casualties.
