Plot Synopsis
When two teens decide to get married after graduating from high school, their parents must reconcile that their children are having a baby and come to terms with their new blended family of Caucasian and Latino heritage. On graduation day, high-school senior Molly tells her parents, Dan and Katrina, that she's pregnant, and then texts the news to her boyfriend, Junior Hernandez, in the middle of his high-school valedictorian speech. Molly and Junior decide they want to get married and, in doing so, bring together two families of very different cultures. Dan, an affable orthodontist not known for rolling with the punches, has a difficult time with the news, but his wife, Caroline, remains the glue between her more volatile daughter and husband. Junior's father, Miguel, an ex-con turning his life around, is also having a hard time dealing with the situation -- after all, they now have Caucasians in the family -- but his wife, Lisette, takes a softer approach and gets to know Caroline. When the parents fully realize that their kids are serious about making a life together, the adults exhale and start to understand it will take, humor, love and tolerance to make it all work. Just weeks after the NBC Upfronts, Fabrizio Guido replaced Aramis Knight in the role of Demetrio Hernandez. WELCOME TO THE FAMILY premiered on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 8:30pm ET/PT on NBC.
