Plot Synopsis

Based on the Swedish TV series and predominately shot on location in Stockholm, WELCOME TO SWEDEN is a sitcom that follows husband-and-wife Bruce Evans and Emma Wiik, as they move back to her native city after she accepts a prestigious banking job. When the series opens, Bruce is a successful money manager to the stars, living his life in New York with Emma, the sweet woman from Sweden whom he loves and adores. She is the rare combination of intelligent, funny, kind and beautiful, who believes she has finally found her true soul mate. They've been married for only a year, so she is surprised and thrilled that he agrees to move with her to Sweden to begin a new life together. Moving halfway around the world with a new love is a huge step and Bruce, with no job, friends or real clue about what he is getting himself into, is quick to face the many unique challenges and culture clashes that living in a foreign land presents. Most notably, how to win over Emma's strange and very Swedish family, which includes her parents, Viveka and Birger, with whom they live. Viveka, who is a therapist, dearly loves her family but has difficulties showing it, especially to Emma. Much to Bruce's dismay, she harbors a dislike of him from day one. Birger, a retired sea captain is the typical Swede -- tall, kind and silent. Since his spoken English isn't very sharp, it only adds to the communication barriers. Other members of Emma's family include: Gustav, her younger brother, a 28-year-old mega-slacker who, for some reason, can do no wrong in his mother's eyes; and Bengt, Birger's younger brother, who is an American-adoring rockabilly type living his life through U.S. movies. As for Bruce's family, his dad, Wayne , is conservative by nature and resides in a small Midwestern town. Along with Wayne, Bruce's adoring mother, Nancy, wants nothing but the best for her son, but has no understanding whatsoever of his decision to leave his happy life in New York. NBC aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 9pm ET/PT.

WELCOME TO SWEDEN returned for its second season on Sunday, July 19, 2015 from 8-9pm ET/PT, as NBC aired back-to-back new episodes. Season 2 follows Bruce and Emma's engagement as they navigate unexpected career transitions, unfamiliar customs and meddlesome relatives. In the season opener (8pm), "Flash Mob / Frieriet," Bruce plans to propose to Emm, despite not receiving a blessing from her father Birger and mother Viveka, who don't believe in marriage. Bruce pulls out all the stops with a grand romantic gesture, but things don't go according to plan. Meanwhile, Emma becomes an unknowing victim of an image posted online by Diane, the new head of marketing, who is tasked with turning around the bank's image. Then, in the night's second new episode (8:30pm), "Searching for Bergman / Ljuden," Emma grows irritated with her boss Olof (guest star Magnus Mark) when he takes credit for her presentation to Hans (guest star Claes Ljungmark), the company CEO. Emma stands up for herself and confronts Olof, but her plan backfires when Hans takes note of her hostile behavior. Elsewhere, Bruce adjusts to his self-appointed role as "the guy" in Stockholm, a local guide who can entertain visiting celebrities and show them the coolest things to do while in town. When Jason Priestley (guest starring as himself) comes to Stockholm for the day, he enlists Bruce, who quickly discovers that Jason is only interested in learning more about Ingmar Bergman. Not wanting to lose his newfound title as "the guy," Bruce convinces Bengt to pose as one of Bergman's former assistant directors.
