Plot Synopsis

Based on Georgia Hunter's 2017 book of the same name, WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES is an eight-episode drama series that's inspired by the true story of one Jewish family separated at the start of WWII. The book is partially based on Hunter's own family. The series follows them across continents as they do everything in their power to survive -- and to reunite -- while demonstrating how in the face of the 20th century's darkest moment, the human spirit can endure and even thrive. The series is a tribute to the triumph of hope and love against all odds. WE WERE THE LUCKY ONES debuted with three episodes on Thursday, March 28, 2024 on Hulu. A new installment drops weekly through May 2. Episodes include:

"Radom" (Thursday, March 28, 2024): The Kurc family celebrates Passover in Radom, Poland. One year later, the onset of World War II forces a devastating separation.

"Lvov" (Thursday, March 28, 2024): Halina and Bella start their passage to Lvov. Sol, Nechuma, and Mila must find a new home in German-occupied Radom. Addy is conscripted into a Polish unit of the French army.

"Siberia" (Thursday, March 28, 2024): Genek and Herta are sent on a grueling train ride. Addy escapes Europe by sea. Halina starts a new job in Soviet-Occupied Lvov.

"Casablanca" (Thursday, April 4, 2024): Mila does everything to protect young Felicia. Halina, Jakob, and Bella face new danger in Lvov. Addy searches for Eliska in Morocco.

"Ilha Das Flores" (Thursday, April 11, 2024): Halina, Jakob, and Bella search for those missing in Lvov. Addy and Eliska attempt to enter Brazil. Genek faces a Siberian winter and a question of faith.

"Warsaw" (Thursday, April 18, 2024): With Sol and Nechuma in danger, Halina attempts to find refuge for her parents. Mila learns to assimilate in Warsaw. Bella searches for solace at the AVL Factory.

"Monte Cassino" (Thursday, April 25, 2024): Halina and Adam prepare for impending violence in Warsaw. Genek embarks on a dangerous mission. Addy struggles to move on with the unknown fate of his family.

"Rio" (Thursday, May 2, 2024): Halina's strength and hope are put to the test. Addy builds a new life in Rio. The end of the war triggers the Kurc family's final search for answers.
