Plot Synopsis

Using diaries, letters, postcards and telegrams, THE WAR TO END ALL WARS is a one-hour series that tells the story of World War I, solely through the eyes of those who lived it. The Great War of 1914-1918 was the first truly global conflict, and in just a few weeks a Golden Age of culture and technological achievement gave way to a war fought with machines and weapons which had never been seen before. On June 28, 1914 Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, was assassinated in Sarajevo, and war broke out in Europe one month later. Within eight months deadly poison gas, a new weapon of war, is unleashed for the first time in history, taking the conflict into a new age.
