Plot Synopsis
Based on John Preston's 2016 true-crime, non-fiction novel of the same name, A VERY ENGLISH SCANDAL tells the shocking true story of the first British politician to stand trial for conspiracy to murder. Jeremy Thorpe, the leader of the Liberal party, has a secret he's desperate to hide. His ex-lover Norman Scott is putting Thorpe's brilliant political career at risk so Thorpe schemes and deceives until he realizes there's only one way to silence Scott for good. The three-part series opens in England in the early 1960s, as Jeremy begins a whirlwind affair with a young stable hand, Norman. But when the relationship turns sour, Norman becomes a secret Jeremy is desperate to hide. As Jeremy gets one step closer to becoming Prime Minister, Norman demands that old promises should be honoured. With Thorpe's old affair with Norman Scott threatening to derail his political career, will Jeremy stop at nothing to silence Norman? Having survived a bungled attempt on his life, Norman Scott publicly accuses Jeremy Thorpe of being behind a plot to kill him. After years of acrimony between them, Norman and Jeremy finally go head-to-head in court with the world watching. On Friday, June 29, 2018 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, Amazon Prime released the entire three-episode series.
