Plot Synopsis

Stefan and Damon Salvatore are vampire brothers who have a long bitter history. Stefan was trying to fit in with humans, and he enrolled at Mystic Falls High School; meanwhile, Damon was clinging to their vampire legacy of violence and brutality. At school, Stefan met Elena Gilbert, who reminded him of Katherine, a woman he loved more than a century ago -- a woman Damon tried to make his own. As Stefan dealt with his issues of mortality and humanity, Elena dealt with her grief of losing her parents in a car accident just four months earlier. Since they were both searching for something (or someone), they were immediately drawn to each other. Damon saw their attraction and sought revenge against his brother. This time, he was determined to have the woman (Elena) for himself. Now these two vampire brothers -- one good, one evil -- were at war for Elena's soul and the souls of her friends and family, and Damon was intent on releasing Katherine from the tomb where he believed she was trapped by a witch's spell all those years ago. In Season 2, Katherine's appearance threw a wrench into the Stefan/Elena/Damon love triangle, and the brothers later faced their greatest challenge yet when two of the powerful Original vampires arrived. Season 3 revealed the history of Klaus and the Original Family, closing with Matt and Elena fleeing town for her safety, only to have Rebekah cause Matt's truck to plunge off a bridge. While they were trapped underwater, Stefan brought Matt to the surface -- but he was unable to save Elena. Though tragic, Elena's untimely death also caused the death of Alaric, a vampire who outed the vampires and their supporters to the Mystic Falls Council and local church leaders and whose only mission was to hunt down and destroy other vampires. Devastated by the unthinkable loss of Elena, Stefan, Damon and all their friends soon discover another horrible truth -- thanks to the well-meaning efforts of Dr. Meredith Fell, Elena died with vampire blood in her system. Season 4 opened with Elena facing her worst nightmare -- as she awakened from the accident, she endured the transition to being a vampire. Despite everything that has happened to them, Elena and her friends entered into the final stretch of high school before graduation sent them off on different path. THE VAMPIRE DIARIES returned for its fifth season on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW, with Damon and Elena having spent a blissful summer in love, unaware that Silas is free and Stefan has been suffering agonizing pain every day for months. While Elena is reluctant to leave Damon and Jeremy, she is also thrilled to be heading off to a new start at nearby Whitmore College with Caroline as her roommate. Still unaware that Bonnie is dead, Elena and Caroline are waiting for their friend to join them at college. Plus, the newly cured Katherine is having a tough time adjusting to being human after 500 years as a vampire, and she asks Damon to help her now that she is vulnerable to her many enemies. As Bonnie's friends fought to bring her back to life as the Anchor to the Other Side, Stefan had to face-off with his doppelganger Silas. Damon's relationship with Elena was put to the test when an old vampire friend from Damon's past revealed he was still alive and looking for revenge. Stefan and Caroline's friendship deepened as they stood up to the Travelers, a nomadic witch tribe driven to strip Mystic Falls of magic and cast out its supernatural residents. Finally, with time running low until the inevitable collapse of The Other Side, Damon and Bonnie made the ultimate sacrifice in order to bring back their friends. Season 6 premiered on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. The sixth season opened months after the devastating tragedy, with everyone still dealing with the loss of their loved ones in different ways, some more destructively than others. In Season 6, after his girlfriend Elena was forced into a supernatural coma, Damon vowed to protect Bonnie at all costs, even though Bonnie's life is now linked to Damon's happiness. Stefan and Caroline put their relationship on hold after a rollercoaster romance provoked by Caroline's mother's death. Alaric lost his fiancee, Jo, along with the twin babies she was carrying. And Lily Salvatore, Damon and Stefan's mother, emerged from a supernatural prison with the help of Enzo, bringing with her a sinister family of witch-vampire hybrids called the Heretics. Season 7 of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES premiered on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In the seventh season, those closest to Elena Gilbert strive to redefine themselves in the wake of losing her. Some recover, while others slide back to their darkest selves. Lily takes advantage of this rocky emotional terrain and works to drive a wedge between her sons, even as she loses control of her volatile family. As the Heretics take up residence in Mystic Falls, Matt will stand up for the humans, while Bonnie's fighter instincts harden as she spends more and more time with Damon. Alaric hits rock bottom before finding new hope in an impossible supernatural mystery -- which could either be his salvation, or the ultimate test of Stefan and Caroline's love story. And looming over all the present-day suspense, flash-forwards to three years in the future will show glimpses of a horrific supernatural threat with profound consequences for our heroes and Mystic Falls. The 16-episode eighth and final season of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES premiered on Friday, October 21 at 8pm ET/PT on The CW. In the season opener, "Hello, Brother," Stefan continues his search for Damon and Enzo, months after they vanished from the armory vault; Caroline and Alaric fear for their family after a dangerous encounter with an unexpected visitor. On Friday, January 13, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT, The CW debuted the winter premiere of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES. In the mid-season premiere, "We Have History Together," Stefan and Damon attend an anger management support group looking for their next victim. Sybil is still alive and teaching a group of high school students who she'll later use as leverage to get Caroline to locate a historical artifact that can be used against her. Meanwhile, Stefan and Damon continue their commitment to Cade as they test the morals of a young doctor, Tara (guest star Alexandra Chando).

On Tuesday, June 13, 2017 Warner Bros. Home Entertainment released THE VAMPIRE DIARIES: THE EIGHTH AND FINAL SEASON on DVD and Blu-ray. The Vampire Diaries sinks its teeth into its final season with more high-stakes romance, adventure and drama than ever before. In Season 8, we find Damon continuing on their killing spree, both following the commands of a sinister and unnatural force. While Bonnie, Stefan and Caroline are grieving their loss, they team up to investigate who or what may be the cause of their disappearance at the end of season seven. Alaric, joins the search and continues to look for clues on how they escaped the Armory vault, and Matt's family history will reveal a deeper connection to Mystic Falls and how he may be able to save the town from destruction.

Fans can devour all 16 one-hour episodes from season eight and feast on over one hour of gripping extras - A Must-Have for VAMPIRE DIARIES Fans!
