Plot Synopsis
Executive produced by Wanda Sykes and Page Hurwitz, UNPROTECTED SETS is a series the presents a compelling portrait of a comedian on the verge of breaking out to become the next big name in comedy. The diverse lineup of breakout talent offers insights into the motivations behind baring one's soul for a living. Their dynamic, personal, and hilarious performances -- where nothing is off limits -- show exactly how, in their own inimitable way, each comedian turns life into art. Season 1 was shot in Portland, San Diego, D.C., Minneapolis and Atlanta, with each 30-minute episode featuring a different comedian, including Zainab Johnson in the series opener. After her dreams of becoming a WNBA player are cut short by a tragic accident, Zainab finds her way to the stage, where her smart and edgy storytelling is informed by her experiences growing up in Harlem in an African-American Muslim family. Other featured comedians include Daniel Webb, and more.
The sophomore season of UNPROTECTED SETS premiered on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 11:59pm ET/PT on EPIX. For the six-episode second season, each 60-minute episode features two comedians: Calvin Evans (Chicago) & Hanna Dickinson (Washington, DC); Kira Soltanovich (San Francisco) & Mike Vecchione (New York); Corey Rodrigues (Boston) & Steph Tolev (Toronto); Kabir Singh (Bay Area) & Kellen Erskine (Bay Area); Rita Brent (Jackson, MS) & Dave Waite (Cincinnati); and Jared Logan (Morgantown, WV) & Clayton English (Atlanta).
