Plot Synopsis
Based on Stephen King's novel of the same name. When the residents of the fictional town of Chester's Mill find themselves suddenly and inexplicably sealed off from the rest of the world by an enormous transparent dome, they struggle to survive as resources rapidly dwindle and panic quickly escalates. As the town's inhabitants struggle with their post-apocalyptic conditions, they search for answers about the dome, where it came from, and if and when it will go away. UNDER THE DOME follows these townspeople and visitors: Dale 'Barbie' Barbara, an Army veteran just passing through town when the dome came down, whose friendship with journalist Julia Shumway threatens to shed light on his mysterious past, including the story of why he was ever in Chester's Mill in the first place; Julia Shumway, the editor of "The Independent," who moved to town recently with her husband, Peter Shumway, a doctor at the medical clinic, and must deal with his disappearance after the dome descends; James 'Big Jim' Rennie, owner of the region's largest used car lot, who is the only elected official left under the dome and whose abiding love for Chester's Mill may be surpassed only by his desire for power; Linda Esquivel, a young deputy, who is trapped under the dome while her fiance, Rusty Denton, is on the outside and who may face immense responsibility after working under the mentorship of Sheriff Duke Perkins; Angie McAlister, a candy-striper at the local health clinic and waitress at Sweetbriar Rose, who was always biding her time in Chester's Mill but now finds herself trapped in a place she never imagined; James 'Junior' Rennie, Big Jim's son, who threw away a college football scholarship to stay home with Angie McAlister, his date to the junior prom -- only to be rejected, just as the dome comes crashing down; Joe McAlister, Angie's younger brother, who finds himself on his own with his parents on the outside and Angie missing on the inside, but becomes entranced by the dome, showing a unique connection with it; Norrie Calvert-Hill, a 16-year-old from California, who gets trapped with her parents on the way to a tough-love camp and who may have a connection to the dome that will prove both intriguing and terrifying; Alice and Carolyn, Norrie's parents, who discover that they already know the strangers of Chester's Mill better than they ever knew their neighbors in California; Phil Bushey, the DJ at Chester's Mill's only independent rock station, who finds himself in charge of the only radio station able to reach the town; Jolene Purdy, Phil's brainy engineer at the station, who possesses technical skills unmatched by anyone in the dome, which proves to be a great resource; Rose Twitchell, owner of the local diner, who knows the comings and the goings of the town better than most; and Sheriff Duke Perkins -- the stoic, world-weary, and unyielding face of Chester's Mill -- whose mentorship of Linda will be felt for years to come, as she is forced to lift his mantle as the top cop under the dome. UNDER THE DOME returned for its second season on Monday, June 30, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS. When Season 2 opens, it's been two weeks since the dome descended upon Chester's Mill, whose inhabitants are still struggling to survive with resources running low as their search for answers to what the barrier is and where it came from continues. The post-apocalyptic conditions intensify while the residents must decide who to rally behind as Big Jim continues to battle for the town's trust and allegiance. Meanwhile, new faces emerge, including: Rebecca, a thirtysomething teacher, who Big Jim beseeches to start back up the school; and Sam Verdreaux, the reclusive EMT, who is Big Jim's brother-in-law. In the Season 2 premiere, which was penned by and includes a cameo appearance from Stephen King, Barbie's fate lies in Big Jim's hands, and the Dome presents a new threat when it becomes magnetized. Meanwhile, Julia seeks out the help of a stranger to save the life of a mysterious girl who may hold clues to origin of the Dome. UNDER THE DOME returned for its third season with a special two-hour premiere on its new night, Thursday, June 25, 2015 from 9-11pm ET/PT. The series moves to its regular timeslot -- Thursdays at 10pm ET/PT -- the following week. In the series opener, the residents of Chester's Mill appear both inside and outside the Dome following their mysterious encounter in the tunnels beneath the town. As the Dome begins to reveal its ultimate agenda, the townspeople are forced to question what and whom they can trust as fresh threats appear, new residents emerge and surprising alliances form. This season in an extended story arc, beginning with the premiere episode, Marg Helgenberger guest stars as Christine Price a Chester's Mill resident with insight into the Dome's origins. Plus, Eriq La Salle guest stars as Hektor Martin, the ruthless CEO of the energy company run by Barbie's father.
