Plot Synopsis

Written by Amelia Bullmore and based on an original idea by best-selling crime writer Val McDermid, TRACES is a six-part series set in and around Dundee, where three compelling female characters -- Emma Hedges, Prof. Sarah Gordon, and Prof. Kathy Torrance -- join forces to uncover the truth about an unsolved murder case that's very close to home. Twenty-three-year-old chemistry graduate Emma has a new job at The Scottish Institute of Forensic Science and Anatomy. Excited, and keen to boost her knowledge, she joins an online forensic science course. But the case study it features -- a woman's remains discovered on Dundee Law -- is eerily familiar. She knows this story. It's her story. Eighteen years ago, that's how her mother's body was found. With help from her new bosses -- two eminent forensic scientists -- and a committed detective, Emma follows the trail of evidence, plunging her into a live police investigation. TRACES had its U.S. premiere on Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Britbox released the first episode. A new episode debuts each following Tuesday.
