Plot Synopsis

Since nobody on Earth is dying and the world's population is booming at an unsustainable rate, CIA Agent Rex Matheson investigates a global conspiracy, which leads him to an old, secret British institute: Torchwood. During Rex's investigation, the CIA itself turns against him and he finds himself on the run, with the strangers from Torchwood as the only people he can trust. The Torchwood Institute was a British organization dedicated to fighting the strange and bizarre, but now its closed down. Captain Jack Harkness, the former head of Torchwood, disappeared to start yet another of his many new lives, but he finds himself back at the center of events, fighting not just for his own life, but for everyone on Earth. After Torchwood closed, Gwen Cooper lived in seclusion with her devoted husband Rhys and baby Anwen, but she was always prepared to once again defend the human race -- now she'll need to call on resources she never knew she had and make the most terrible decisions, on behalf of all mankind. At the center of this Miracle Day, Oswald Danes becomes the most provocative figure in modern media because this former school teacher and convicted child killer survives his execution. And its Jilly Kitzinger, a manipulative PR woman, who realizes that, in a world gone mad, Oswald Danes could easily become her ticket to power. Joining Rex, Jack and Gwen save humanity are: Esther Drummond, a deskbound CIA employee who dreams of active duty and who finds herself running along with this trio; and Dr. Vera Juarez, a Washington D.C. surgeon, who finds herself on the frontline of medical care as she advises government think-tanks on the best course of action. Even though MIRACLE DAY is the fourth season of TORCHWOOD, Starz treated the program as an original series -- much to the dismay of TORCHWOOD fans -- since Starz broadcast this installment in the United States before it aired in the United Kingdom.
