Plot Synopsis
TINY HOUSE, BIG LIVING is a half-hour reality series that follows prospective home owners, as they build the tiny home of their dreams. This series officially premiered on Monday, July 6, 2015 at 9pm ET/PT on HGTV, more than 6.5 months after the cable network first aired a series sneak peek on Monday, December 15, 2014 from 11pm-Midnight ET/PT. In the night's first sneak-peek episode (11pm), "Jenna and Guillaume's Adventure House-on-Wheels," two twenty-somethings want to build their tiny dream home from scratch so that they can make America their backyard. Then in the second episode (11:30pm), "Derek and Mary's Little House on the Prairie," a young military couple hires a professional tiny home builder to construct a sturdy house that can be towed by a two-ton truck. Season 4 of TINY HOUSE, BIG LIVING premiered on Thursday, January 5, 2017 from 9-10pm ET/PT, as DIY Network debuted back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener (9pm), "The Simple Container Life," Emily just graduated with her Master's in Merchandising and Consumer Studies and is back living at home with her parents. To prove to herself and her family that she's capable of living a simpler lifestyle, she's moving into a shipping container turned tiny house. Brother-in-law Jon just so happens to be an engineer who specializes in converting metal boxes into beautiful livable spaces. Not willing to give up all her amenities, Emily is challenging Jon to build her a massive rooftop deck, a spacious bathroom and a walk-in closet that fits her enormous shoe collection. Then, in the night's second new episode (9:30pm), "Greg and Carla's Musical Tiny House," Greg and Carla Short have decided to give tiny living a try outside Morgantown, WV. Greg is a singer/songwriter and is well known around town as a gifted musician, so it's no surprise he and Carla's tiny house will feature all sorts of music-themed features...and who better to help craft this special music box than his bandmates? The 250-square-foot tiny house includes a detachable stage where Greg and the boys can perform on the road and every room incorporates the Shorts' passion for music in surprisingly functional ways. On Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 9-10pm ET/PT, DIY Network premiered the fifth season of TINY HOUSE, BIG LIVING, showing back-to-back new episodes. In the season opener (9pm), "Empty Nester's Eco Tiny," a mother that has dreamed of living in a tiny home with eco-friendly features sets out to achieve her goal. She devises a special home with a full galley kitchen that includes hidden counter space, a laundry room built into the belly of the staircase and an entertainment area that hides a stowaway queen-size bed. Not everything goes according to plan, but the final product surpasses her expectations and brings her closer to satisfying her wanderlust. Then, in the night's second new episode (9:30pm), "Floating Tiny House," a couple from the Jersey Shore looks to make life more affordable by converting an old houseboat into a floating dream home. With the help from their parents, they construct a funky and floating tiny house with their own unique style.
