Plot Synopsis

Written by and starring comedian Aisling Bea, THIS WAY UP is a dramedy series that centers on Aine, a whip smart English-as-a-foreign language (TEFL) teacher trying to pull her life back together after a "teeny little nervous breakdown", as her sister Shona worries, not only about her younger sibling, but also about her own life choices. The TEFL school where Aine teaches brings together a room full of characters also trying to find their own hope, direction and happiness in this messy world. THIS WAY UP had its U.S. premiere on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT, as Hulu released the entire six-episode first season.

Season 2 of THIS WAY UP dropped on Friday, July 9, 2021, as Hulu released the entire six-episode new season. The second season is set after the events of the Season 1 finale, with things in flux for Aine and her sister, Shona. Aine's starting to leave her time in rehab behind and live less cautiously, which may not be entirely wise. Will she and Richard make a cheeky go of it? Or continue to exist in the odd tension of the employer-employee dynamic? How will Charlotte and Shona manage running a new business together and having feelings for each other? Will Shona be able to go through with marrying Vish? Planning a wedding? Can she tell him what happened? Is there anything more to tell?
