Plot Synopsis

Created and written by Marta Szymanek, THE THAW is a one-hour drama series that's set in Szczecin, Poland, where the body of a young woman is discovered under the melting ice. It asks: Who was she? Why did she die? Who did she leave behind? Did people who are now mourning know who she really was? These questions and the search for answers provide Detective Katarzyna Zawieja with a powerful -- although initially unconscious -- incentive to confront her own circumstances: that of a single mother playing the role of a perfect police officer, and above all, a woman in crisis. THE THAW debuted with two new episodes on Friday, April 1, 2022 on HBO Max. Two new installments dropped weekly on Fridays through April 15.

In Season 2 of THE THAW, Zawieja and Trepa continue working at the Szczecin Police Station after solving their last case. By chance, they uncover a human trafficking ring also investigated by the Central Bureau. The second season debuted on Friday, August 23, 2024 on Max, which released the first episode of the new season. A new installment dropped weekly on Fridays through September 27.

On Friday, September 27, 2024, Max released the Season 2 finale of THAW. Zawieja is getting closer to solving the murder case, but her dedication puts her loved ones in danger.
