Plot Synopsis
This series only airs once per quarter, allowing Tavis Smiley the opportunity to do in-depth profiles of newsmakers and to explore topical issues in great detail. In the premiere episode, Tavis travels and talks with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about her first year as America's chief diplomat. In the second episode, Tavis delves into Martin Luther King Jr.'s "Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence" speech, examining the context of Dr. King's words on liberty, responsibility and freedom against the backdrop of the fight for civil rights and an increasingly unpopular war, and examines the implications of his words today. The third episode deals with "Katrina: Five Years Later" by filmmaker Jonathan Demme, letting the distance of history wrestle with the questions "How did this happen? How can we prevent it from happening again?"
