Plot Synopsis

Inspired by the television series and the feature film of the same name, S.W.A.T. stars Shemar Moore as a locally born and raised S.W.A.T. sergeant newly tasked to run a specialized tactical unit that is the last stop in law enforcement in Los Angeles. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, former Marine Daniel 'Hondo' Harrelson has everything it takes to be an excellent leader and bridge the divide between his two worlds. Hondo's elite unit includes David 'Deacon' Kay, an experienced S.W.A.T. officer who always puts the team first, despite feeling overlooked for the lead job; Jim Street, a cocky but promising new member of the group; Christina 'Chris' Alonso, a skilled officer and the team's canine trainer; and Dominique Luca, an expert driver who gets them in and out of high risk situations. Overseeing the unit is Jessica Cortez, the captain of L.A. Metro who values her job above all else, including her off-the-books relations with Hondo. Hondo's team enjoys an intense rivalry with another L.A.-based unit led by Mumford, an aggressive leader who likes to do things his way. With Hondo leading the charge, these dedicated men and women bravely put themselves at risk to protect their community and save lives.

The sophomore season of S.W.A.T. premiered on Thursday, September 27, 2018 at 10:05pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "Shaky Town," the SWAT team engages in a standoff with human traffickers holding child hostages when a major earthquake hits Los Angeles during their operation and compromises the takedown. Also, while Hondo forms an unexpected personal connection with Deputy District Attorney Nia Wells (guest star Nikiva Dionne), Jim Street has trouble adjusting to his new life as a patrol officer. On Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT, CBS debuted "School," the mid-season premiere of SWAT. The SWAT team faces difficult reminders of a past school shooting when they receive a warning that a copycat plans to re-enact the crime. As the team races to stop the new threat, they flash back to the day of the tense first mission. Cast members Shemar Moore, Alex Russell, Jay Harrington and Lina Esco appear in a public service announcement at the end of the episode.

Season 3 of S.W.A.T. premiered on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at 10pm ET/PT on CBS, as Amy Farrington joins the cast as Lieutenant Piper Lynch, a Senior Officer in the LAPD's Hollywood Division. In the season opener, "Fire in the Sky," the SWAT team works with Lieutenant Piper Lynch, a senior LAPD Hollywood Division officer, when the mayor assigns her to oversee city departments joining forces to stop a serial bomber using drones as detonation devices. Also, just as Hondo settles into legal guardianship of his teen charge, Darryl, his home life becomes more complicated when his estranged father unexpectedly moves in.

The fourth season of S.W.A.T. premiered on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 9-11pm ET/PT, as CBS debuted the two-hour season opener: "3 Seventeen Year Olds" (9pm): Hondo, his father Daniel Sr. and his teen charge Darryl confront the history of racial tension in Los Angeles between law enforcement and the Black community, through flashbacks to the city in 1992 following the Rodney King verdict. Also, the SWAT team pursues El Diablo's scattered drug cartel hiding in the city and a Jihadist group detonating bombs in coordinated attacks. "Stakeout" (10pm): The SWAT team acts as a domestic surveillance unit for the CIA to confirm whether an international crime lord has resurfaced in Los Angeles after being off-grid for years. Also, Tan's mother, Chan Fei, is a victim of racial discrimination, and Hondo encounters his ex-girlfriend Nichelle, for the first time since their breakup. On Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at 10pm ET/PT, CBS debuted "Under Fire," the winter premiere of S.W.A.T. The SWAT team goes on the hunt for a sniper who is targeting the Los Angeles Fire Department by setting fires around the city to lure in unsuspecting engine companies. Also, the rivalry between Chris, Street and Tan ratchets up when Tan finds out there's an internal betting pool on which of them will win the SWAT leadership competition. And, Street and Molly's relationship is strained by his complicated history with his imprisoned mother.

S.W.A.T. returned for its fifth season on Friday, October 1, 2021 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. In the season opener, "Vagabundo," Hondo retreats to a quiet town in Mexico to reassess his life and professional future in the aftermath of his decision to speak out in the press, only to find himself reluctantly drawn into one local family's fight for justice. After a three-week break, CBS debuted "Survive," the winter premiere of S.W.A.T. on January 2, 2022 on its new night: Sundays at 10pm ET/PT. Also, Hondo prepares to meet Rochelle's parents for the first time, and Tan helps Luca navigate a sensitive situation.

In the season opener, "The Promise," the team heads to Mexico to escort a fugitive back to the U.S., but things go awry and Hondo has to save an old witness tied to the case.

S.W.A.T. returned for its eighth season on Friday, October 18, 2024 at 8pm ET/PT on CBS. Torn between loyalty to where he was raised and allegiance to his brothers in blue, Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson strives to bridge the divide between his two worlds. Committed to the job, Hondo is equally devoted to his marriage and fatherhood. The other members of Hondo's elite S.W.A.T. unit include David "Deacon" Kay, an experienced S.W.A.T. officer and dedicated family man who always puts the team first; Victor Tan, who started in the LAPD Hollywood Division and uses his confidential informants in the community to help the team; Zoe Powell, a tough and loyal team member trying to reconnect with the son she gave up for adoption as a teen; and Miguel "Miko" Alfaro, a headstrong officer who overcame a troubled childhood, and is now a trusted 20-Squad addition following a rocky transfer to Los Angeles S.W.A.T. Responsible for the management of all Metro Division S.W.A.T. units is Commander Robert Hicks, a senior LAPD official with the Special Operations Bureau.

In the season opener, "Vanished," SWAT tackles a mission with personal ties for Hondo when they race to find a group of missing students and their bus driver, Hondo's former high school football coach. Also, Hicks has reservations regarding Hondo's new 20-Squad team addition, Devin Gamble (new star Annie Ilonzeh), a cop with a family background deeply entrenched in crime.
