Plot Synopsis
SURVIVING ESCOBAR: ALIAS JJ is a one-hour drama series that follows JJ (aka Popeye), Pablo Escobar's No. 1 hit man, as he struggles to stay alive while the Medellin Cartel crumbles. is a professional hitman, lieutenant and the right-hand of the late Medellin Cartel's drug lord Pablo Escobar Gaviria. He never hesitates to admit the many hundreds of people he has killed. He loves to boast of his guts and skills to pull the trigger. At the age of twelve, this humble man from Medellin discovered his innate talent to become a killer and ever since he has been accumulating murders and money. If he doesn't have his gun he feels naked and vulnerable in the face of the hundreds of enemies that surround him. He never takes a "no" for an answer and has a way with words to convince, deter, and coax as long as he attains his goals. Cold-blooded and fearless, Popeye has it clear that your heart shouldn't interfere with business, and that's why he avoids getting emotionally involved with women that enter his life and his bed. That's what this guy is: a hitman who has made a whole country shake. When the Search Bloc was just at his boss' heels, Jhon Jairo decided to turn himself in to the authorities and confess his crimes before ending up shot like many of his partners in crime. He was pursuing a favorable agreement but was sentenced to twenty-three years in jail. JJ is not willing to become an old man behind bars and resorts to all types of strategies to evade justice and get free right away. Among other things, he uses his manipulating ability and sells himself as a repented man while fighting to protect his life inside the Capital Prison, a life that is hanging by a thread because of the many enemies he inherited from past wars and the new ones he has gained as a convict. Paradoxically, he is a criminal hated by the country and protected by the State. He knows so much that, in his own words, he is "the historic memory of the Medellin Cartel". And that to the authorities is a great chance to clarify so many crimes and injustices that have not yet been solved. To Alias JJ, treason can't be forgiven, and that is paid with blood. However, according to his odd and crooked set of values, he does have the license to betray, even his own blood. He is a bold man and a blabbermouth, and that's why his statements and confessions always give room for doubt. Nobody knows what is or is not true in his eloquent sentences. The series opens with JJ turning himself in to serve time in prison, but an unexpected twist leaves him vulnerable and exposed -- and he must gain respect in the prison hierarchy. Meanwhile, the lives of JJ's wife and mother-in-law are threatened as Escobar's associates start being murdered. Later, when JJ discovers Mahecha's plan to help 3H escape prison. Alexandra is anxious to escape police custody with her mother. Netflix released 60 episodes of this series on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 3:01am ET/12:01am PT.
