Plot Synopsis
The first Sun Bowl was played on New Year's Day 1935 at El Paso High School as a fundraising event to benefit underprivileged children and to finance improvement to the El Paso High School Stadium. The game featured an El Paso High School All-Star Team against a worthy opponent. The following year, New Mexico State and Hardin-Simmons Universities were invited to play, and the Sun Bowl has been a college game ever since. During the early years of the game, it was a tradition to match the Border Conference Champion against the best available opponent. Since 2011, the selection committee has paired teams from the ACC and the Pac-12.
