Plot Synopsis

Executive produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay, SUCCESSION is a one-hour drama series that follows the Roy family -- Logan Roy and his four adult children, Kendall, Roman, Shiv and Connor -- who control one of the biggest media and entertainment conglomerates in the world. Members of the Roy family grapple with what the future holds for them as their aging father begins to take a step back from the company. Mckay also directed the pilot. Set in New York, SUCCESSION explores themes of power, politics, money and family. Logan, the tough and aging patriarch, is head of Waystar Royco, a family-controlled international media conglomerate. He is married to his third wife, Marcia, a loving, formidable partner. Kendall, Logan's eldest son from his second marriage, is currently a division president at the firm and the heir apparent. Roman, Kendall's younger brother, is Logan's outspoken, fun-loving son and no longer works at Waystar. Siobhan 'Shiv' Roy, Logan's only daughter and youngest child, has been pursuing a career in politics. Connor, Logan's eldest son, and only child from his first marriage, has pursued an independent life in New Mexico. In the series premiere, the Roy siblings are reunited with their younger cousin, Greg, who has moved from Canada to New York, seeking a foothold in the management of the firm's theme parks. On the periphery of the Roy family are Tom, Shiv's ambitious boyfriend and a senior executive at the firm, and Rava Roy, Kendall's wife, with whom he shares two children and an emotional bond, despite their marital separation. Frank (Peter Friedman) is the firm's COO, an old family friend, and a mentor to Kendall. In an effort to solidify his takeover of Waystar, Kendall is on the brink of buying out a digital media outfit from Lawrence, its CEO and founder.

The ten-episode second season of SUCCESSION premiered on Sunday, August 11, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on HBO. Beginning where Season 1 left off, Season 2 follows the Roy family as they struggle to retain control of their empire, and while the future looks increasingly uncertain, it is the past that threatens to ultimately destroy them. Holly Hunter, Cherry Jones, Danny Huston, Jeannie Berlin and Fisher Stevens join the cast for Season 2. In the season opener, "The Summer Palace," still addled from the events in England, Kendall tries to make amends with his dad for his takeover attempt betrayal. Logan receives some unvarnished advice from his financial banker about the next best move for Waystar Royco. As Tom maneuvers for a new position in the company, Shiv tries to determine whether Logan is playing mind games regarding his successor. Written by Jesse Armstrong; directed by Mark Mylod.

The nine-episode third season of SUCCESSION premieres on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at 9pm ET/PT on HBO. Ambushed by his rebellious son Kendall at the end of Season 2 Logan Roy begins Season 3 in a perilous position, scrambling to secure familial, political, and financial alliances. After Kendall's impulsive decision to expose the company's sprawling scandal, the family is left to each contemplate their future. Tensions rise as a bitter corporate battle threatens to turn into a family civil war, with the Roy family navigating the looming question of who will take over in a post-Logan world. In the season opener, "Secession," following his bombshell presser, a righteous Kendall scrambles to find a base of operations, while Logan's team searches for safe harbor.

SUCCESSION returned for its 10-episode fourth and final season on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT on HBO. The sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is complete. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed. In the season opener, "The Munsters," as Kendall, Shiv, and Roman hone their pitch for potential investors in LA, a call from Tom shifts the siblings' focus towards one of their dad's long-coveted companies. Back in NY, Greg's uninvited plus-one raises questions at Logan's birthday party, Connor considers throwing a gargantuan sum at his campaign, and Tom seeks assurances from Logan.
