Plot Synopsis

Featuring a soundtrack of original music and music performances, STAR is a one-hour drama series that follows three talented singers -- running from their pasts and desperate for a new start -- with ambitions of stardom, as they navigate the cut-throat music business on their road to success. But reality soon dawns on the girls' fantasies, and they start to learn that ambition often comes at a cost. Star, a tough-as-nails young woman who came up in the foster care system, tracks down her sister, Simone, and her Instagram bestie, Alexandra, and together, the trio journeys to Atlanta with the hope of becoming music superstars. Once there, Carlotta becomes a surrogate mother to the young crew, which also includes Cotton, and they find Jahil, a down-on-his-luck talent agent looking to revitalize his career, who's taken a certain interest in Star. On Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT, FOX broadcast a special premiere of STAR, with the official series premiere scheduled for three weeks later on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at 9pm.

The sophomore season of STAR premiered on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 9pm ET/PT on FOX. At the end of Season 1, the singing trio caught its first big break -- winning Atlanta NextFest. Now, in the second season, one thing is clear: their lives will never be the same. It's a whole new world for the girls, as Star, Alexandra, and Simone prepare for their next career move, with help and guidance from Carlotta, the group's new manager. Having entered into a deal with Midtown Sound, the girls and Carlotta must contend with R&B crooner Noah Brooks and other artists to fight for the attention of the new label president, Ayanna Floyd, a powerful Machiavellian corporate operator with her own agenda for the girls' future. Meanwhile, after a harrowing stint in prison, Cotton must find a way to re-enter society as a convicted felon. And, with Derek facing the possibility of never walking again, Alexandra must work to keep their romance alive, while balancing her own career goals. Finally, the fate of Jahil remains decidedly unclear, following last season's shocking and explosive finale. Guest stars include: Grammy Award winner Lenny Kravitz, supermodel/actress Naomi Campbell, Grammy Award-nominated musician and actor Tyrese Gibson, empress of soul Gladys Knight, Grammy Award winner Missy Elliott, Grammy Award-nominated artist Big Boi and Paris Jackson, who made her acting debut on the series.

Season 3 of STAR premiered on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT on FOX. The season opener, "Secrets & Lies," picks up three months later, as Star returns home from touring, and Alex and Simone's fates are finally answered. Carlotta and Cassie's sibling rivalry continues, as the two grapple with the aftermath of Cassie's big mistake, and Christine (guest star Patti Labelle) is caught in the middle. When Carlotta's back is against the wall, Midtown Sound's strength and future is tested by Mateo Ferrera, and Star's big announcement leaves a lot of questions unanswered. After a three-month break, STAR returned with new episodes on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT on FOX, with Chad Michael Murray and Ben Vereen guest starring in the spring premiere. Last episode, in the winter finale, Carlotta worked to make the Rhythm and Bells Festival a success; Star ended up in a legal bind; Alex made a major career move; Simone was hiding a secret; Cassie got out of jail seeking revenge; Derek and Ruby volunteered at the shelter. Now, in the spring premiere, "When Stars Fall," Star, after giving birth, ends up jeopardizing everything she has worked for, while Simone fights for her family. Meanwhile, Carlotta opens up about buried trauma from her past, Cassie puts her neck on the line to save her nephew, Alex's career is skyrocketing and the team begins to think about the future of their musical careers. Additional guest stars: Nealla Gordon as Charlene, and Trayce Malachi as Jayden.

On Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 9pm ET/PT, FOX premiered the Season 3 finale of STAR. In the season ender, "When the Levee Breaks," the ASAs finally arrive and Take 3 fights Amber Drake (guest star Erika Tham) for the top spot. Alex prepares for her wedding, but someone from her past returns to wreak havoc on her big day. Meanwhile, Star finally makes a decision about Davis, Carlotta continues to mend things with Rashad (guest star Major) and the season ends with a bang. Guest cast: Evan Ross as Angel Rivera, Major as Rashad, Harold Perrineau as Bobby Brooks, Kimberly Elise as Dianne, Kosine as Lil Dini, Kayla Smith as Olivia, Erika Tham as Amber, Juanita Jennings as Grandma Ruby, and Fred Hammond as Minister.
