    Season 1

Plot Synopsis

Betrayed by his country. Beaten into slavery. Reborn as a warrior. When he's separated from the love of his life, Spartacus is forced into the gruesome and bloodthirsty arena, where a grisly death is primetime entertainment. Spartacus must fight for survival, befriend his enemies and play politics in this new world of corruption, violence, sex and fame.

Before its series premiere, Starz announced the program was picked up for a second season, SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE, picking up on the heels of the bloody escape from the House of Batiatus that concluded BLOOD AND SAND. The gladiator rebellion continued and began to strike fear into the heart of the Roman Republic. Gaius Claudius Glaber and his Roman troops were sent to Capua to crush the growing band of freed slaves that Spartacus led before it could inflict further damage. Spartacus was presented the choice of satisfying his personal need for vengeance against the man that condemned his wife to slavery and eventual death or making the larger sacrifices necessary to keep his budding army from breaking apart.

Season 3, WAR OF THE DAMNED, which premiered on Friday, January 25, 2013 at 9pm ET on Starz, opened months after Gaius Claudius Glaber's death, as Spartacus continues to assemble a formidable army while outwitting Rome's finest commanders. With the rebel numbers swelling to thousands of freed slaves, it has become a force that has started to challenge even the mighty armies of Rome, which turns to its wealthiest citizen, Marcus Crassus, who, with a young and fiercely competitive Julius Caesar as an ally, is determined to crush Spartacus and his rebellion. But following the death of Ashur, Naevia and Crixus fight as one with newfound strength and determination. Plus, Spartacus and his generals Crixus, Gannicus and Agron, continue to amass victories over Rome. Together, the rebels engage in one bloody skirmish after another and prepare for the inevitable: a full out war with Rome.

On Monday, September 23, 2024, Starz announced additional casting for SPARTACUS: HOUSE OF ASHUR. Entering the arena are Dan Hamill as Celadus, Andrew McFarlane as Gabinius, Jackson Gallagher as Caesar, Jaime Slater as Cornelia, Simon Arblaster as Proculus, Arlo Gibson as Opiter, Cameron Rhodes as Uvidus, Evander Brown as Ephesius, Graham Vincent as Hedylus, Louis Hunter as Erato, Donald Ross as Salvius, and Duane Wichman Evans as Dacus. All join in guest star roles. Production on the 10-episode season is underway in New Zealand.

Nick Tarabay returns as the villainous Ashur, the iconic role he originated in the series' original run. SPARTACUS creator, writer and executive producer Steven S. DeKnight serves as showrunner and executive producer. SPARTACUS: HOUSE OF ASHUR will be a history-bending, erotic, thrilling, roller-coaster experience that builds on everything that made the original series a colossal hit. The series poses the question: what if Ashur, played by fan favorite Nick Tarabay, hadn't died on Mount Vesuvius at the end of SPARTACUS: VENGEANCE? And what if he had been gifted the gladiator school once owned by Batiatus in return for aiding the Romans in killing Spartacus and putting an end to the slave rebellion? "To be afforded the opportunity to return a decade later to a series you loved is such a rare, wonderful opportunity," said Steven S. DeKnight. "I could not be more excited to craft this next chapter in the Spartacus saga with STARZ, Lionsgate, and the incomparable Nick Tarabay."
