Plot Synopsis
Season 9 FOOD NETWORK STAR winner Damaris Phillips hosts this weekly, half-hour cooking show, as she shows viewers and in-show guests how simple it is to prepare Southern-style date-night meals worthy of that special someone. Damaris adds a contemporary edge to Southern cuisine, combining complex flavors and locally grown ingredients to dress up the traditional fare. In each 30-minute episode, she helps one guest, such as: Greg, a young father-to-be, who learns how to make Chili Over Chai Grits, Sorghum Candy Apples and Burnt Orange Marshmallow Cupcakes; Demond, who Damaris helps make breakfast in bed for his fiancee, including Pumpkin Scones With Maple Cinnamon Icing, Homemade Granola Parfait and Baked Quiche With Country Ham; Chris, who learns to make a menu for the day his team takes on the rival team that his girlfriend supports, which includes Pot Roast Sandwiches, Chow Chow and Beer Cheese and Mac; a man who wants to impress his wife with a veggie menu that includes Veggie Pot Pie With Cornmeal Crust, Black-Eyed Pea Fritters and Onion Jam; a soldier who wants to remind his wife of when they first fell in love, with dishes like Turkey Meatloaf With Fig Catsup, Miso Greens, and Goat Cheese Smashed Potatoes; and Buddy, who wants to help his wife make an extra special holiday meal with Roasted Chicken With Pear Butter and Bourbon Glaze, Cauliflower Curry and Brown Rice Casserole, and Bourbon Pecan Cake. SOUTHERN AT HEART returned for its second season on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at 10am ET/PT on Food Network. In the first episode back, Damaris and one of her best friends, pastry chef Terra Nelson, rent a movie from their favorite video store and decide to whip up the perfect snacks to munch on: Hickory and Gorgonzola Popcorn; easy handmade Wild Mushroom and Cheddar Pork Sausages; and Homemade Candy Bars With Chunks of Cookies and Caramel. On Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Noon ET/PT, Food Network debuted the Season 3 premier of SOUTHERN AT HEART. In the season opener, "Late Night Feast," Damaris hosts a late-night feast, inspired by a lively zombie walk she saw in Louisville. A stunning Red Wine Spaghetti With Meatballs is followed by the perfect sweet treat, her decadent Banana Pudding. There's also Mulled Wine for her costumed party guests to sip on. Season 4 of SOUTHERN AT HEART debuted on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Noon ET/PT on Food Network. In the season premiere, "Rainy Day Egg Hunt," Damaris brings the festivities inside when it's raining during the day of her egg hunt. No matter the weather, her impressive meal of Country Ham and Scalloped Potatoes with an iceberg wedge salad is sure to please the crowd. And while the kids are munching on their chocolate bunnies, the adults can enjoy Damaris's coconut bourbon chocolates.
