Plot Synopsis
Executive produced by Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart and Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine, SONGLAND is a one-hour competition series takes an inside look at the creative process and provides one winner per episode the opportunity to have their song recorded for a global audience by the chart-topping guest recording artists featured in their show. In each episode, undiscovered songwriters are put center stage as they pitch their original material to an icon in the music industry. Then, the three panelists produce the songwriters to creatively adapt their songs to perfectly fit the style of that show's guest. Finally, one song is chosen to be recorded by the guest and released for a global audience the same night. The panel of producer-songwriters includes Ryan Tedder (lead singer of OneRepublic and Grammy Award-winning producer of Adele, Beyonce and Taylor Swift), Ester Dean (Grammy-nominated songwriter and producer of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj) and Shane McAnally (Grammy-winning songwriter and producer of Kacey Musgraves, Kelly Clarkson and Sam Hunt with 38 #1 country records). Guest artists include: John Legend (series premiere), will.i.am, The Jonas Brothers, Meghan Trainor, Macklemore, Charlie Puth, Kelsea Ballerini, OneRepublic, Aloe Blacc, Old Dominion, Leona Lewis, and more.
The sophomore season of SONGLAND premiered on Monday, April, 13, 2020 at 10pm ET/PT on NBC, with all three panelists -- Ester Dean, Shane McAnally and Ryan Tedder -- returning for the new season. Each week a superstar guest recording artist will come to "Songland" in search of their next hit song. Today NBC announced the full list of guest recording artists who will be featured on season two of the show, including Boyz II Men, Florida Georgia Line, Luis Fonsi, H.E.R., Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Julia Michaels, Ben Platt, Bebe Rexha and Usher. In the season opener, undiscovered songwriters are put center stage as they pitch their original material to five-time Grammy Award-winning country-pop trio, Lady Antebellum, and a panel of chart-topping music producers. Viewers get an authentic peek into the creative process behind songwriting as three of music's most successful and sought-after writer-producers, Ryan Tedder (Jonas Brothers, Adele, Taylor Swift), Ester Dean (Rihanna, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj) and Shane McAnally (Kacey Musgraves, Kelly Clarkson, Sam Hunt), produce the songwriters to creatively adapt their songs to perfectly fit the guest recording artist. One song is chosen to be recorded by the artist and released for a global audience the same night.
