Plot Synopsis

60 MINUTES SPORTS is a monthly, one-hour news magazine, during which correspondents Bob Simon, Scott Pelley, Lara Logan, Armen Keteyian and other 60 MINUTES and CBS Sports talent reveal previously-unseen footage, present brand-new exclusive interviews, and provide timely updates for sports-related stories that were previously covered on CBS' iconic, Sunday-night program. In the premiere episode, Bob Simon went to Spain to talk to 25-year-old Lionel Messi Messi, an Argentine who plays for FC Barcelona, where he just broke the 40-year-old record for scoring the most goals in a calendar year. Also, Scott Pelley looked deeper into the case against Lance Armstrong and the U.S. Postal Service Cycling Team, including an interview with U.S. Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis Tygart that aired for the first time on this program. During their talk, Tygart told Pelley the entire story about Armstrong trying to "donate" approximately $250,000 to the doping agency. Plus, Lara Logan updated her original 60 MINUTES story on free solo climber Alex Honnold, who climbs rock walls using only his hands and feet. 60 MINUTES SPORTS returned for its second season on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 10pm ET/PT on Showtime. The Season 2 opener includes stories from these correspondents: Sharyn Alfonsi, talking with U.S. Olympic-Gold skiing favorite Mikaela Shiffrin, who is the youngest woman to win a world championship title in the slalom in 39 years; Pam Oliver, profiling Vince Wilfork, who is the injured team captain and emotional leader of the New England Patriots; James Brown, who explores how Brent Jones, Tommy Vardell and Mark Harris transitioned from the NFL to successful Silicon Valley investors; and Anderson Cooper, who reports how the GoPro camera, a small and wearable device, has revolutionized sports. Showtime premiered the third season of 60 MINUTES SPORTS on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Topics in the Season 3 opener include: Bobby Mitchell: Washington Redskins' First Black Player; NFL's Concussion Settlement and the CTE Issue; Zdeno Chara: Tallest Man to Play in NHL; and coach Bill Belichick. Season 4 of 60 MINUTES SPORTS premiered on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at 8pm ET/PT on Showtime. The season opener touched on these topics: Children and football, raising questions for parents whose children are involved with the sport; kid basketball leagues; and the rising popularity of extreme mountain climbing through the eyes of Sasha DiGiulian.
