Plot Synopsis

Created, written, and executive produced by Rachel Cuperman and Sally Griffiths, SIGNORA VOLPE is a three-part detective drama series filmed on location in the Lazio and Umbria regions in Italy. Top British spy Sylvia Fox is in Italy for her niece Alice's wedding when the groom goes missing, leaving a dead body behind him. Sylvia solves the mystery and falls in love -- with Italy -- and with a crumbling old house on a hillside. Disillusioned with her job at MI6 headquarters in London and longing to reconnect with her family -- including her estranged sister Isabel Vitale -- Sylvia decides to stay on and start a new life in the little town of Panicale. But trouble has a habit of seeking Sylvia out and she finds herself tackling a fresh mystery every week -- and in the process, becoming increasingly close to handsome local cop Giovanni Riva. On Monday, May 2, 2022, Acorn TV released the first of three episodes of SIGNORA VOLPE, with a new episode dropping each Monday through May 16:

"An Anxious Aunt" (Monday, May 2, 2022): Disillusioned with her work at MI6, spy Sylvia Fox travels to Italy for the wedding of her niece. Although her relationship with her sister, Isabel, is troubled, Sylvia is welcomed warmly by her family. But when the groom goes missing, leaving a dead woman behind, Sylvia feels compelled to investigate. The trail leads her from an empty pizza box and stolen children's book to a deadly showdown.

"Secrets & Sacrifices" (Monday, May 9, 2022): Sylvia helps out on an archaeological dig at the Castello di Monterosa, and finds a skeleton buried in a shallow grave. The locals are convinced it's that of a teenage girl who disappeared 25 years ago, and that she was murdered by a recluse who still lives nearby. Riva thinks so too, but Sylvia is less sure. Her investigation uncovers a story of dark secrets, domestic abuse, and heroic sacrifice.

"Truffles & Treachery" (Monday, May 16, 2022): When Sasha Pavlenko, the son of a Russian politician is arrested in Rome for the murder of a fellow-student, Sylvia's ex-husband and ex-colleague Adam asks her to investigate. Sylvia has another important case in hand -- the kidnap of a truffle pig -- but reluctantly agrees. Sasha is bailed into Sylvia's custody, and she discovers that he and Mario, the victim, were lovers. Sylvia uncovers a nasty blackmail plot gone wrong, but is shocked when she discovers that Mario's killer is someone she knows well -- or thought she did.

Season 2 of SIGNORA VOLPE debuted on Monday, July 29, 2024 on Acorn TV. As a high-ranking British spy, Sylvia's physical prowess, investigative skills, surveillance expertise, and proficiency as a markswoman have made her exceptional at solving mysteries. At the end of Season 1, having fallen in love with Italy and re-established bonds with her sister Isabel, Sylvia decided to resign from her job at MI6 and start a new life in Umbria. But old habits die hard, and though Sylvia might have left her job at MI6 behind, her unique skillset and appetite for solving mysteries remain undiminished. Over the course of Season 2, she finds herself investigating the murder of a pillar of the local community, and going undercover for MI6 at a perilous house party by the lake. Then, a dead man comes looking for vengeance, and Sylvia's family have to race against time to save her life. While restoring justice to the local community, Sylvia is joined throughout all three episodes by her extended family with whom she's reestablished a connection. With a bevy of new mysteries to solve set against an Italian countryside backdrop, the second season of SIGNORA VOLPE remains not only a suspenseful detective drama but an adventurous summer escape. Nicholas Farrell also guest stars in two episodes as a mystery guest. Episodes include:

"A Debt of Honour" (Monday, July 29, 2024 on Acorn TV early morning and BBC America from 6-8pm): A pillar of the local community is found dead at the charity he runs, and Antonella's friend is arrested for his murder. Trying to clear the woman's name, Sylvia follows a trail of blackmail, family secrets, and illicit love.

"A Deadly Net" (Monday, August 5, 2024 on Acorn TV early morning and BBC America from 6-8pm): Freelancing for MI6, Sylvia poses as the PA for a diplomat's widow at her luxurious lakeside villa; she's keeping watch on a South American politician, but when a dead body is found in the lake, Riva is astonished to discover Sylvia already onsite.

"Death of a Ghost" (Monday, August 12, 2024 on Acorn TV early morning and BBC America from 6-8pm): When an old foe abducts Sylvia, she must draw on her formidable reserves of physical and mental resilience to escape; while Riva investigates through official channels, Henry and Isabel run their own covert operation, all of them racing to save her.
