Plot Synopsis
SHADES OF BLUE is a one-hour drama series that centers on Harlee Santos, a single mother and detective at the heart of a tight-knit crew of Brooklyn detectives, led by enigmatic Lieutenant Matt Wozniak, who often leads the team to step outside the limitations of the law in order to effectively protect their precinct and their own. When Loman, the newest member of the team, kills an unarmed man, Harlee covers it up. As a big illegal job looms on the horizon, the FBI catches Harlee in the act and leverages her daughter in order to turn her into an informant, pitting her against her own unit. As a newly turned informant, she struggles to safeguard her on-the-job family and avoid arrest in order to stay with her daughter. Harlee engages in a perilous dance with her FBI handler, Special Agent Stahl, who develops an unhealthy obsession with her. Meanwhile, Wozniak, acting as the unit's patriarch, begins an all-consuming hunt for the informant, suspecting every member of his crew. Pressure mounts as the crew struggles to perform their brand of street justice under FBI watch. Season 2 of SHADES OF BLUE premieres on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 10pm ET/PT on NBC. Harlee navigates her fractured relationship with Wozniak, as she struggles to conceal her deepest secret: she killed her daughter's father. Following his discovery that Harlee collaborated with the FBI, Wozniak is confronted with a gut-wrenching dilemma of his own. The crew is under tight scrutiny from Stahl and the FBI as well as from Internal Affairs, in the form of a gregarious detective, Verco, who investigates the disappearance of one of their own. Meanwhile, a former member of their crew, Julia Ayres, runs for mayor and her complex relationship with Harlee and Wozniak comes to the fore. Neither Harlee nor Wozniak anticipates that Ayres' corrupt connections will trap them in a dangerous war with the Mafia. In the season opener, "Unforgiven," Harlee takes drastic measures to cover up the murder of her abusive ex, Miguel. Wozniak makes a deal with FBI Agent Robert Stahl to keep himself and his crew out of jail but soon discovers Stahl has led him into an impossible trap. As the crew deals with the fall-out from the failed heist, Tess struggles to keep her painful gunshot wound under wraps. SHADES OF BLUE, which stars Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta, premiered its 10-episode third and final season on Sunday, June 17, 2018 at 10pm ET/PT. The drama concludes after three seasons as the storyline brings Lopez's complex character to a fitting resolution. "I have enjoyed producing and starring in this beautifully complicated world and playing such an empowering yet flawed character -- a women, a detective, but, first and foremost, a mother," Lopez said. "Now looking at it with a little distance, playing Harlee strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman. It's crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful. We crafted a poetic three-season arc on how her journey ends, which is true redemption. The way only Harlee could have done it -- the hard way, the road less traveled. I thank NBC and all the talented actors, writers, crew and producers for going on this journey with us!" The cast also includes Drea de Matteo, Dayo Okeniyi, Vincent Laresca , Hampton Fluker and Sarah Jeffery. Nick Wechsler is a recurring guest star as Detective Cole.
