Plot Synopsis
In this four-part political thriller inspired by Chris Mullin's novel, "A Very British Coup," Deputy Prime Minister Tom Dawkins is thrust to the forefront by catastrophic events, and ends up taking on the establishment. After a devastating accident on British soil, Deputy Prime Minister Dawkins vows to take on American petrochemical company Petrofex, but when a suspicious plane crash kills the Prime Minister, Dawkins campaigns for the position, using justice for the accident victims for his platform. Following his shock election victory, now Prime Minister Dawkins launches an enquiry into the toxicology anomalies at the blast in Scarrow, while he's pressed to take out an al-Qaeda chief. Plus, when Dawkins pursues corrupt banker Sir Michael Rix, he makes enemies in the financial world and in his own party, prompting others to dig into his past, where they discover some uncomfortable truths about the PM. With the truth about the plane crash being revealed, the true intentions of those around Dawkins become clear. DirecTV's Audience Channel aired the U.S. premiere of this series on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 10pm ET/PT. Almost seven years later, SECRET STATE had its network premiere on Ovation, as the cable channel debuted the series on Saturday, September 12, 2020 at 7pm ET/4pm PT.
