Plot Synopsis

Based on the 2023 graphic novel by Nate and Megan Trinrud and Maria Nguyen, SCHOOL SPIRITS is a young adult drama series that focuses on teen girl Maddie Nears, who is stuck in the afterlife investigating her mysterious disappearance. Maddie goes on a crime-solving journey as she adjusts to high school as a ghost, but the closer she gets to uncovering the truth, the more secrets and lies she discovers. The series opens with Maddie acclimating to purgatory at Split River High, where she becomes determined to solve the mystery of her disappearance. While observing those she left behind, Maddie begins to realize everyone is not as honest and loyal as she once thought. As she grows close to the spirits in the ghost world, a driven Maddie begins to unravel the events surrounding her death, only to discover someone other than Xavier may have been involved. With an unexpected suspect possibly involved in her death, Maddie's forced to reveal more about the depth of that relationship -- leading to unexpected consequences. SCHOOL SPIRITS debuted with three episodes on Thursday, March 9, 2023 on Paramount+, and later that day the series made its linear television debut at 10pm ET/PT on MTV. Following the premiere, new episodes of the eight-episode-long season were available to stream weekly on Thursdays on Paramount+ through April 13.

On Thursday, April 13, 2023, Paramount+ released "Madisons Body," the season finale of SCHOOL SPIRITS. Questioning their existence, the spirits seek Mr. Martin for answers. Maddie must confront the latest suspect which challenges everything she thought she knew before. Xavier, Claire and Nicole look for answers at an abandoned house. When the truth is finally revealed, Maddie must face unexpected and devastating consequences.
