Plot Synopsis
Based on the movie of the same name, SCHOOL OF ROCK is a half-hour comedy series that follows the gifted students of William B. Travis Prep School, who are in for the lesson of a lifetime. When their teacher suffers an unfortunate skateboarding spill, he's replaced by Mr. Finn, a yogurt salesman turned substitute teacher. Little do the students know that their new substitute actually rocks. In fact, he's not even really a teacher. He'd much rather assign guitar solos than extra credit, but if he wants to succeed, he'll have to show the class that learning can be fun when you band together. His mission is to teach these honor roll students how to rock, win the Battle of the Bands and become a rock legend. With their talents combined, this class of classically-trained musicians forms a band complete with headbanging beats and face-melting solos. But if they want to live the rock star life, they'll have to band together and keep the whole thing a secret. The band includes: Tomika, a fun-loving tomboy with a kick-butt attitude and a gifted bassist with the pipes to match, who's also down to earth and tells it like it is, which is why she is such a great best friend to Summer; Freddy, a talented drummer and daredevil, who is always down for taking risks in the name of fun and whose carefree attitude keeps the class cool when things get crazy; Summer, an overachiever with perfect attendance, who is always prepared for every possible scenario, while relying on her bestie Tomika to keep her grounded; Zack, who has some of the best guitar skills in school, but also has some of the strictest parents, which isn't the best combination for a wannabe rock n' roller; and tech-savvy and a talented musician Lawrence, who is a pro on the piano, and although he isn't the smoothest kid in class, he's your guy if you need an awesome light show or a killer keyboardist. SCHOOL OF ROCK premiered on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 9:30pm ET/PT on Nickelodeon, immediately after the 2016 KIDS CHOICE AWARDS, with a simulcast on TeenNick and NickToons. The 13-episode second season of SCHOOL OF ROCK premiered on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 9pm ET/PT on Nickelodeon. In the season opener, "Changes," the kids' post-Battle of the Bands plans are jeopardized when their regular teacher returns, so they have to find a way to get Dewey back to keep their rock and roll dreams alive. Season 3 of SCHOOL OF ROCK premiered on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 8:30pm ET/PT on Nickelodeon. In the season opener, "Hold on Loosely," when Freddy tells the band that his family is moving to Canada, they all work together to come up with a plan to convince his mom to let him stay.
