Plot Synopsis
SCHITT'S CREEK is a half-hour comedy series that centers on a formerly filthy rich family who suddenly find themselves broke and forced to live in Schitt's Creek, a small depressing town they once bought as a joke. Video store magnate Johnny Rose, his soap star wife Moira, and their two kids -- uber-hipster son David and socialite daughter Alexis -- lose their entire fortune when they are informed they have been the victim of a Bernie Madoff-style Ponzi scheme. They are left with just one asset -- Schitt's Creek -- a town that was purchased, in jest, by Johnny as a gift for his son. The Roses have no choice but to live there in a motel and start again. As extreme fish out of water, they are forced to confront life without the luxurious amenities they once knew. Pop (formerly known as TVGN) aired the U.S. premiere of SCHITT'S CREEK on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 10pm ET/PT, showing back-to-back episodes.
Season 2 of SCHITT'S CREEK premiered on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 8-9pm ET/PT, as Pop premiered back-to-back new episodes shortly after a 6.5-hour marathon (9am-3:30pm) of encore episodes. In the one-hour season opener, "Finding David; Family Dinner," the Roses search for their missing son, while Alexis is torn between Ted and Mutt. Then, Johnny searches for new office space, and Moira decides to cook dinner. Two weeks earlier -- on Thursday, March 3 -- Pop announced that it renewed SCHITT'S CREEK for a 13-episode third season.
The 13-episode third season of SCHITT'S CREEK premiered on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at 8pm ET/PT on Pop. In Season 3, the Roses find themselves at a crossroads between longing for the life of extreme wealth and extravagance they left behind and embracing the ho-hum, make-shift but loveable town they've reluctantly come to call home. While Johnny continues to explore business opportunities that could help his family's plight, Moira finds herself faced with difficulties while on the town council. Their adult children Alexis and David both realize their love lives are extremely complicated, neither one being able to fully break away from former relationships. While the Roses still hold out hope of returning to the lap of luxury, they continue to move forward with caviar dreams on a beer budget, realizing with each passing day that Schitt's Creek may be the best place for them after all. In the season opener, "Opening Night," written by Daniel Levy, Johnny struggles to get a new business venture off the ground while dealing with unwelcome competition at Bob's Garage. Moira makes a splash at her first Town Council meeting, but quickly encounters roadblocks from the other councillors. Meanwhile, David and Stevie are shocked to learn that their romantic lives are intersecting. Alexis receives a generous offer from Mutt, but has to deal with Mutt's new girlfriend.
Season 4 of SCHITT'S CREEK premiered on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at 8pm ET/PT on Pop. The fourth season opens with the Roses making the most of life in Schitt's Creek, and -- Moira's constant talk of escaping aside -- are finally starting to feel at home in the town. Johnny is busy running the motel with Stevie as his partner. Business is booming, but it's a challenge for him to balance work and family, while dealing with Roland's antics. Moira is carrying out her duties with Town Council and the Jazzagals, and is also looking for new ways to utilize her talents, whether it's through a theatrical performance, or by helping Alexis navigate event planning. David is managing his store and attempting to maintain a brand new relationship, but between struggling to find the time for romance, and overcoming the anxieties of his dating past, this is proving to be a challenge. Meanwhile, Alexis is putting all of her energy into school and her career, but is finding it difficult to focus when she still has lingering feelings for her ex-fiance, Ted.
The fifth season of SCHITT'S CREEK had its U.S. premiere on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 from 10-11pm ET/PT, as Pop TV debuted back-to-back episodes. The Roses are finally thriving in Schitt's Creek and find themselves ready to take their personal relationships and business pursuits to the next level. Moira returns from a breakthrough film shoot in Bosnia with a clear exit strategy and a renewed sense of purpose, and with that newfound energy, she is inspired to leave her mark on the town by launching her most ambitious artistic endeavor yet. Meanwhile, the reputation of the Rosebud Motel is steadily building under Johnny's leadership, but managing the individual needs of his staff, Stevie and Roland, proves to be a greater challenge. With Rose Apothecary running smoothly, David is now focusing on nurturing his relationship with Patrick, and from apartment hunting to joining a baseball team, he proves he's willing to go the extra mile. Alexis, having finally achieved some stability in both romance and career, isn't one to let things get stale, so she tries to spice things up with Ted while contemplating a next step that could take her beyond Schitt's Creek.
SCHITT'S CREEK returned for its sixth and final season on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 9pm ET/PT on Pop TV in the United States and CBC in Canada, airing the same day and time across North America. In Season 6, the Roses are achieving success in their careers and personal lives, forcing them all to contemplate their inevitable next steps. But as their pursuits push them closer towards their long-awaited escape, the Roses see how connected their lives have become to the town and its residents. When they finally face the decision to stay or leave, it is much harder than expected. Johnny takes on a second motel, but as the costs pile up, he worries it may have been a huge mistake. Meanwhile, Moira's Crows movie has thrust her back into the limelight, but when she passes on a major opportunity, she fears she's lost it all (again). With a wedding in sight, David throws all of his energy into the planning, but when he and Patrick clash on their vision of their future together, David is forced to confront the fact that marriage is more than a wedding. Alexis focuses on her publicity work while Ted is in the Galapagos, and, much to her surprise, her career begins to take off.
