Plot Synopsis

Host Jeff Mauro draws on his Chicago roots as he puts a new spin on classic sandwiches and re-imagines meals in sandwich form. Mauro shows viewers how to make: potroast-style Chicago Italian beef, with sauteed sweet peppers and hot giardiniera; fig focaccianini; his homespun take on the gyro; a power dinner sandwich with a stack of juicy ribeye, garlicky spinach, and blue cheese dressing on crusty buttered French bread; fish and chips on slider-sized parker house rolls with fresh and crunchy fennel slaw; a classic German chicken schnitzel dinner inside a flaky, homemade biscuit; chicken Vesuvio on a French roll, with pan sauce, pea and mushrooms, roasted potato wedges, and more; soft bolillo rolls with layers of shredded, mole-coated chicken, beans, cheese, and homemade tomatillo sauce; a ham sandwich inside fried plantains instead of bread; and many sandwiches and sides.
