Plot Synopsis
Using rare archival footage and dramatic re-creations of pivotal events, RUFF RYDERS CHRONICLES is a five-part docuseries that recounts Ruff Ryders' rise to hip-hop superstardom. Ruff Ryders was a musical collective and an entertainment company headed by brothers Darrin 'Dee' Dean and Joaquin 'Waah' Dean. Mostly backed by the sounds of producer Swizz Beatz, multi-platinum rappers such as DMX, Eve and The Lox made an indelible mark on hip hop around the turn of the millennium. Aside from the solo releases from affiliated artists, Ruff Ryders released the popular "Ryde or Die" compilation series (three volumes from 1999 to 2005), which showcased their impressive roster. In the series opener, "Origin Story," Waah survives poverty, violence and hustling on the streets of New York and sets his sites on making it in the music business. He founds Ruff Ryders and signs his first artist, DMX, known for rapping and robbing in Yonkers.
